The Beer Weekender: December 6-8

As a rule, we don’t review beers here on Brew York. We don’t think our opinion of any beer should matter anymore than your own. So when we recommend that you try something new this weekend, we recommend with caution, and bearing in mind our own tastes. As much as we hate to admit it, we’re suckers for hoppy West Coast IPAs. And god dammit, two beers at last night’s New York City Beer Week Fundraiser at Brooklyn Brewery really suited our tastes - the new beers from Other Half Brewing. The IPA is a big hop bomb with lots of Pacific Northwest hop aroma and flavor and a subtle hint of malt. And the Green Diamonds, their Imperial IPA? Let’s just say we enjoyed it a little too much, and paid dearly this morning.

So if you get a chance, we recommend you give this new Brooklyn-based outfit a whirl. It’s the first brewery to open in the borough in nine years! You can find Other Half’s beer on tap right now at One Mile House (10 Delancey St., at Bowery, Lower East Side), Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope), The Diamond (43 Franklin St., at Calyer St., Greenpoint), and other good beer spots across Brooklyn and Manhattan. And hey, we won’t be offended if you don’t like it.

Happy drinking - here’s this weekend’s rundown of beer events…
