Farm Breweries growing fast in New York

Barrier Brewing in Oceanside, Long Island, is one of the state’s now 28 licensed farm breweries

A year after the new level of licensing for breweries that source ingredients from New York was introduced, the number of farm breweries in state has reached 28 - double the number the state reported just four months ago.

The list of licensed farm breweries includes three in New York City, all of which started operation since the beginning of this year. Finback in Queens, Other Half in Brooklyn, and Gun Hill in The Bronx are all now licensed farm breweries. In addition, Long Island’s Barrier and Greenport Harbor also received the license in the last four months, which grants more privileges than the microbrewery licenses they held before.

Two Roads debuts in New York today

Last week it was Bell’s. This week, it’s Two Roads. Stratford, Connecticut’s Two Roads Brewing officially rolls out in the five boroughs today. Brewmaster Phil Markowski is no stranger to brewing beer for New York City beer drinkers; he was the longtime brewer at Southampton before starting this venture in 2012. They’ll launch with events across the city on Wednesday and Thursday.
