The craft beer trend keeps moving further east in Brooklyn, from bars like Nostrand Avenue Pub to Glorietta Baldy swinging their doors open in the past few months. Now, Crown Heights’ newest addition, Covenhoven (730 Classon Ave., at Park Pl, Crown Heights), gives the neighborhood its first craft beer specialty shop - but also, another great place to grab a pint.
On to the Sweet 16! After over 15,000 more votes, 16 bars have advanced to the third round of BARch Madness, our tournament to determine New York City’s favorite beer bar!
Time for another edition of New Brews, where we tell you about the new beers arriving on draft lines and beer store shelves around the city. In this edition: a well-known summer seasonal from Michigan makes its New York debut, a tiny Oregon brewer arrives in the city, and a boozier version of a popular local Stout.
To the casual observer, it looks like not much has gone on since our visit to the Bronx Brewery’s new site in early February. But in that time, an immense amount of work has been accomplished - all work necessary in the process of bringing the founders’ dream from an empty room to a fully-functioning production facility. Now, with two months worth of major construction completed, the opening of the brewery is tantalizingly close - and just a couple major steps remain.
The votes are tallied and the results are final - after over 15,000 votes in the first round, 32 bars have advanced to the second round of BARch Madness, our tournament to determine New York City’s favorite beer bar!
Are your brackets filled for March Madness? Then it’s time to play BARch Madness. It’s our 64-bar tournament to determine New York City’s favorite beer bar, and it begins today.
For the next three weeks, we’ll play in seeded tournament format, with the bar receiving the most votes in each matchup moving on to the next round. Voting on the first round begins today and runs through Monday, March 24th at 12 noon.
