And the winner is…

image

The votes have been tallied (all 54,000 of them), and we have a winner in our first-ever BARch Madness: Brooklyn’s Fourth Avenue Pub!

A #9 seed overall, Fourth Avenue Pub had some stiff competition in their region, beating Forest Hills Station House, Good Beer, The Double Windsor, Proletariat, The Spring Lounge, and Cooper’s Craft & Kitchen - not an easy road at all. But the free popcorn, a big backyard, great craft beer, and a generous happy hour made Fourth Avenue a sleeper pick.

If you’ve never been, we urge you to drop by Fourth Avenue Pub for a beer and congratulate them.

And thanks to everyone who participated - from our readers, to the bars who egged their patrons on to vote for some serious upsets. We’ve learned a lot from this first attempt that will make next year’s BARch Madness even better!

Citi Field welcomes more craft beer, Yankee Stadium shuts it out

image
If you’re a Yankees fan, you can enjoy these beers while watching your team… when they’re playing the Mets at Citi Field.

It’s Opening Day of the 2014 Major League Baseball season, and there’s nothing quite like enjoying a delicious beer along with a hot dog or peanuts while you take in a Mets or Yankees game. While Citi Field continues to welcome craft beer with open arms and serve more local beer than ever, Yankees fans will have to tolerate a very different definition of the word “delicious” for yet another season.

Brooklyn via Sweden: New Carnegie Brewery opens next week in Stockholm

image

After two years of behind-the-scenes planning and months of construction, Nya Carnegiebryggeriet will open for business next week in Stockholm, Sweden. You might wonder what that mouthful of letters is and why it’s relevant to New York beer drinkers. Nya Carnegiebryggeriet is translated as New Carnegie Brewery, and its owners include Brooklyn Brewery, marking the first time an American craft brewery has operated a brewery overseas.
