Where to drink beer straight from the source in NYC

image

What greater feeling is there as a beer drinker than drinking fresh beer straight from the source? Given the explosion in craft breweries in New York City in the past two years, it’s becoming easier and easier to do. So, for your reference, we’ve put together a list of every single place in the five boroughs where you can drink beer brewed right on the premises. Some places, you can only try a few samples, and at others, you can drink a whole pint (or several). Regardless, these are the places where fresh beer can hit your lips within feet of where it’s brewed. Our list is sorted by borough. Here we go!

This weekend's Coney Island On Tap festival at MCU Park is getting a little bit bigger: they’ve added a second session from 5-8pm on Saturday. It’s Good Beer Month!

image

New York’s July Good Beer Month kicks off today! Each year, July is a month to embrace craft beer culture and all the things that make beer great in New York. Now in its fifth year, the month has become a summertime tradition in the city, and now even sports its own passport!

Good Beer Month got an early start this year with the release of the NYC Good Beer Passport, which is valid starting today. The passport is just $35 and gives you a free beer from a New York City brewery at well over 40 bars throughout the city between now and Labor Day. That’s under a buck per beer! Best of all, proceeds benefit the NYC Brewers Guild, Food Bank for New York City, and the Heritage Radio Network. Buy online and then pick up at the location of your choice in the five boroughs and you’ll be set for some epic summer bar crawls.

As usual, there will be beer events throughout July to celebrate Good Beer Month, including three at WNYC’s Greene Space as part of their annual “Craft Beer Jam.” The event lineup continues straight through until July 31st. Here’s a taste of some of the month’s big events…

Pumpkin Beer creeps its way into June

image

Al’s of Hampden in Enola, PA announced the arrival of their shipment of Pumking today, like it or not (photo via Instagram)

Hell officially froze over today, June 30th, as the pumpkin beer trend became a mockery of itself with the release of this year’s Southern Tier Pumking. A pumpkin beer. In June. Which, according to reports from BeerPulse, was bottled in late May, and brewed even earlier than that.

I’ve documented Seasonal Creep for years here on this site, and it wasn’t long ago that we mocked the release of Shipyard’s Pumpkinhead when it was at the end of July. Last year, we pointed out the irony of Samuel Adams Summer Ale being released on a snowy day. In recent years, we’ve pointed out that many of these beers aren’t even available in the season they’re inspired by.

But now, brewers are just throwing the calendar out the window for good. Summer officially began just nine days ago, and with it comes fall beers that most level-headed beer geeks wouldn’t want to drink in 90-degree weather.
