It’s IPA Day! While we’re of the belief that every day is IPA Day, but today is a day to celebrate the hoppy goodness of beer. Some roll their eyes at an entire day dedicated to the most ubiquitous beer style in the United States, but hopheads everywhere can rejoice in knowing this day is for them. IPAs surpassed seasonal beers as the top-selling craft beer style in the US this year, and these days, they are — like it or not — the first thing many people think of when they think of craft beer.

Relax and Have a Beer – There’s No Beer Bubble

The Brewers Assocation released their mid-year statistics on the craft beer industry in the United States this week, and a new benchmark was reached: probably sometime in June, for the first time since the 19th century, 3,000 breweries were operating in the U.S. It’s a remarkable bounceback for an industry that had less than a hundred breweries just three decades ago. And the growth has been especially notable recently; taking closures into account, nearly half of the nation’s breweries have opened just since 2010, and that growth becomes more rapid year after year. To many in the industry – the Brewers Assocation included – it’s cause for celebration.

Eight area bars are latest to get the Good Beer Seal

In a ceremony at 82 Mercer capping off July Good Beer Month, the Good Beer Seal committee announced eight new bars as inductees on Thursday Night. These bars will now proudly display the Good Beer Seal, which certifies bars that don’t just merely offer craft beer, but celebrate it. In addition to adding several bars in the five boroughs, the committee chose to add a bar on Long Island - the sixth to be certified outside of New York City proper.

Brooklyn Brewery eyeing new brewing facility for export market

A report from the New York City Regional Economic Development Council indicates that Brooklyn Breweryis looking to add a new brewery on Staten Island to help increase production in their export markets. As Crain’s first reported, the council’s 2014 Draft Progress Report [PDF] indicates that they are working with the state and the brewery to identify locations on the West Shore of Staten Island or the mid-Hudson Valley for a 200,000 square-foot facility on 20 to 25 acres “to accommodate worldwide demand for its product.”
