BARch Madness Round 2: The IPA Region
image

Time for round 2 of BARch Madness! The votes have been counted from the first round, and now it’s time to decide who goes on to the Sweet 16.

The upsets were plentiful in the first round in the IPA Region, and that’s making for some exciting matchups in round 2. #1 seed The Ginger Man will face a formidable opponent in #8 seed Covenhoven, who we named our best new bar opening in 2014. Two upsets have resulted in a 11-14 match between defending BARch Madness champion 4th Avenue Pub and Queens newcomer Judy & Punch. And it’s a battle of bars just blocks apart in Brooklyn, as Pacific Standard, fresh off its upset of #2 seed The Jeffrey, takes on a strong contender in Mission Dolores.

Who wins this time? You decide now!

Time for round 2 of BARch Madness! The votes have been counted from the first round, and now it’s time to decide who goes on to the Sweet 16.

There were a single upset in the first round in the Saison Region, where relative newcomer Arts & Crafts Beer Parlor upset Upper West Side stalwart George Keeley in the first round. They now go on to face a tough opponent in Beer Culture. Also in this round: the original Pony Bar faces last year’s runner up Cooper’s Craft + Kitchen, who squeaked by The Double Windsor in round 1, and one of four remaining Queens bars, Alewife, takes on the small but powerful Proletariat.

Who will win in this round? You decide now!

Time for round 2 of BARch Madness! The votes have been counted from the first round, and now it’s time to decide who goes on to the Sweet 16.

There were no upsets in the first round in the Pilsner Region, but that doesn’t make the second round matchups any less interesting. #2 seed Blind Tiger faces Valhalla, who had a strong showing in their first round matchup. It’s a battle of Brooklyn vs. Manhattan, as Fools Gold and The Owl Farm go at it in round 2. And does #1 Rattle N Hum have what it takes to hold on against Bondurants after a surprisingly close first round matchup with the #16 seed?

You decide! Vote below.

Improv Everywhere springs beer musical on Houston Hall patrons

Improv Everywhere has been serving up surprises to New Yorkers for years, from 2004′s Best Gig Ever to 2008′s Frozen Grand Central to the ever-popular (if mocked) annual No Pants Subway Ride. But this is the first one that’s relevant enough that we had to share it here. One Sunday night earlier this month, a cast of characters and a whole crew descended upon Houston Hall to spring their latest Musical in Real Life… it’s Beer! The Musical! The project was a collaboration with the New York State Brewers Association.

Watch it above, then click through to their site to read the highlights of the mission.

Where craft beer and March Madness pair perfectly
image

It’s that time of the year again, when we all waste far too much time watching college basketball because somebody convinced us to join that office bracket pool. Well, if you’re the type who likes to cross out your picks at a bar while you watch this year’s games – and prefer to do it over a good beer – here are five sports bars in New York that specialize in craft beer.
