LIC Beer Project debuts next month in Queens

Another brewery is poised to make a mark on the Queens beer scene when it debuts next month. LIC Beer Project (39-28 23rd Street, at 40th Avenue, Long Island City) will pour its beer for the first time during Queens Beer Week in May, adding a whole host of farmhouse-style beers, barrel-aged brews, and even wild ales to the ever-growing supply of local beer. The brewery in Long Island City will also host a tasting room – the fourth in a neighborhood that had no breweries just three years ago.

For rapid growth, Bronx Brewery finds support from private equity

Four years in and a new brewery later, The Bronx Brewery now has the backing of a private equity firm. New York’s Tenth Avenue Holdings – a firm based in Manhattan – has secured a stake in the company. The outside investment will help the rapidly-growing brewery as they continue to expand their distribution and brew more at their Bronx facility.

Governor’s office releases craft beer economic study

On the heels of Brewers Association statistics released yesterday at the Craft Brewers Conference that showed New York had the second-most brewery openings in the country in 2014, Governor Cuomo’s office today released a study on the economic impact of craft beer to the state. The study reveals the rapid growth of the industry based on 2013 numbers, and suggests that the state’s recent efforts to encourage craft beer production are paying off.

Brewery Ommegang opens pop-up growler shop in Soho

This week in Soho, Cooperstown-based Brewery Ommegang has a pop-up store (40 Wooster St., at Grand St., Soho) for you to buy a customized stainless steel growler, engraved with the name of your choice. That’s cool in and of itself, but there’s also a chance for you to taste their first-ever American IPA, Nirvana IPA, which launches at bars across the city next Monday, April 20th.

The votes have been tallied, and we have a winner in our second annual edition of BARch Madness, and it’s another unexpected winner that bested a bar that’s consistently considered one of the best in the world. Valhalla (815 9th Ave., at 54th St., Hell’s Kitchen) is your champion, beating Torst handily in the final round, 74% to 26%. Valhalla’s fans and supporters had a strong showing in every round, and their road to becoming champion wasn’t easy.

Threes Brewing launches Kickstarter for outdoor space

Threes Brewing (333 Douglass St., at 4th Ave., Gowanus) has made the most of their indoor space since opening back in November. They’ve had a packed house most weekends, host music events during the week, churn out great food from their rotating guest vendors, and serve coffee every morning from their front room. Now, they’re looking to take advantage of their outdoor space behind the brewery – and they’re looking for help through Kickstarter to build it out.
