Brooklyn Brewery filed suit yesterday in a California court over the name of a recently-opened brewery in Fresno, Black Ops Brewing. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, alleges that the brewery’s name infringes on their trademark of Brooklyn Black Ops, a bourbon barrel-aged stout that the brewery has produced since 2007 and has been registered as a Federal trademark since 2009.
Earlier this year, Coney Island Brewing Companyopened their new brewery at MCU Park in their namesake neighborhood. It’s another addition to our city’s burgeoning beer scene, which continues to bring local beer to the far reaches of the five boroughs. To celebrate the brewery’s opening in the land of freaks and coasters, starting today, we’re partnering with Coney Island on the Brew York New York Sweepstakes. The contest will give you a chance to think up your own “freaky beer” for a chance to brew it at the brewery.
It’s simple: just submit your idea through Coney Island’s site. We’ll review and pick a winner, who will get to brew, plus take home a sweet custom kegerator, tap handle, and pint glasses. Plus, we’ll feature the winner and winning beer here on the site.
So, get those creative juices flowing… you’ve got until December 28th to get your idea in. Good luck!
Grab your wallets and get to the brewery on Saturday. Two local breweries are releasing cans this weekend, some debuting in cans for the very first time. Here’s the details on how you can get your hands on these, and another special release…
Cooperstown’s Brewery Ommegang is headed south this week to host their Five Borough Bar Crawl. This year, they’ll be partnering up with breweries in each of the five boroughs for a night of beer and bar-hopping. Each of the local breweries,
Bronx Brewery in the Bronx, Birerria in Manhattan, Threes Brewing in Brooklyn, Flagship Brewing Company in Staten Island, and Finback Brewery in Queens, worked with Ommegang to create a crawl that celebrates craft beer in their borough. Each stop on the crawl will feature a tap takeover from both Ommegang and the hosting brewery. Tickets for each crawl cost just $20, with proceeds going to the cause of the overall betterment of beer with the Northeast Hop Alliance. The fun kicks off on Thursday night and continues until Saturday.
