NYC Beer Week is here! Here’s the rundown of everything you need to know — the events, the happenings, the beers, and more — to get you ready for the citywide ten-day celebration of everything beer! There are still tickets for the biggest events of Beer Week, so mark these on your calendar!
With NYC Beer Week upon us, it’s time to take a look at our regularly-updated list of breweries making their beer in the five boroughs. With the addition of ICONYC Brewing Company in Queens this month, New York City now has 24 breweries – a number not seen in generations. The number of breweries operating in New York City has doubled since mid-2013, and has grown vastly from the four that were in operation as recently as 2010. New York’s growth is finally starting to match national growth, where the number of breweries has more than doubled in the past five years and just achieved an all-time high of 4,144 – more than in 1873, when a lack of refrigeration necessitated a brewery in nearly every town.
New York City Beer Week starts this Friday! We’ve told you about the big featured events of NYC Beer Week, but that’s just scratching the surface. And with 114 events listed so far on the Beer Week site, your head might spin (and not just from the beer). From tastings to beer dinners to tap takeovers, there’s something for everyone in the event listings. We’ve pulled out the 20 we’re most looking forward to - two from each and every day of beer week!
It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and in case you didn’t make plans weeks in advance for a fancy dinner, you could at least take your date out for a classy craft beer. We’ve got some suggestions of how to do that. BUT WAIT! If you’re single and alone on this Valentine’s Day, we’ve got some ways to cope with that with some good beer, too. Every month, we’ll bring you a list of the new places we’ve added to our Brew York Beer Guide, the best way to locate beer venues across the five boroughs. Among the spots you’ll see in this month’s update: a new spot to grab a beer before a game at MSG, a new spot to get your growler filled on Prospect Park West, and the craft beer-filled ping pong venue you’ve been looking for.
Two weeks from today, the New York City Brewers Guild will kick off New York City Beer Week, ten days of big beer events throughout the five boroughs. The guild has announced some of the marquee events that have already been scheduled - with many more to come. It’s a lineup chock full of stuff far beyond your typical tap takeovers and promo nights… think festivals and beer dinners and, yes, even beer-filled boat rides.
