The summer is heating up! July is a great month for beer in New York City, as it’s July Good Beer Month. This year is the 8th annual celebration of good beer in the city, and it’s shaping up to be a good one. And that’s not all – there’s plenty of other worthwhile beer events around town this month. Here’s our rundown of just some of them.
June is winding down and we’re heading into the Dog Days of Summer. But that’s just going to increase your thirst for some delicious beers. Here’s a selection of new ones from the city’s breweries to keep an eye out for over the next few weeks.
Since its opening, Rockaway Brewing Company has been brewing commercially out of its facility in Long Island City, where it has built out a popular taproom and brewery. But its namesake section of Queens – where co-founders Ethan Long and Marcus Burnett homebrewed and honed their craft – was always in the plans, now they’ve finally planted their stake down by the beach with their new Beach 72nd Taproom (415 Beach 72nd St, at Amstel Blvd, Arverne). They’re swinging the doors open with an opening weekend bash on Saturday, June 25th.
Summer has officially arrived in NYC. And despite the torrential downpours, stifling subways, and din of ice cream trucks, there are good things that come with summer in the city – and drinking a cold beer outside just might be the best part. In the final days of the state’s 2016 legislative session, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he and legislative leaders had come to an agreement to loosen a handful of Alcohol Beverage Control laws to make it easier for bars and breweries to do business in the state. Among the biggest highlights for consumers is an earlier start time to Sunday alcohol sales at bars and restaurants, a blue law that had been on the books since the end of prohibition.
