I’ll try to chalk this up to being in Midtown to sample the Sierra Nevada/Dogfish Head Limb & Life, but I can’t help but call out another example of Dogfish Head snobbery when I pay $8 to drink a 4.8% beer out of a goblet. Seriously? Slight caramel aroma with hints of chocolate. A hoppy taste with a slightly sweet finish. This bi-coastal collaboration is nice and pleasant, but it’s nothing special.

Weyerbacher’s philosophy seems to be that bigger taste always equals better. And while that’s not always true, it seems to be when they’re in charge. The Imperial Pumpkin Ale tastes like each bottle is made with a slice of pumpkin pie. And during the recent hop shortage, Dan and Sue Weirback grew their own for the limited-run Harvest Ale. It’s also a great example of how you can’t judge a beer by its desktop-published logo.

This has bothered me for years. At least someone is finally saying something about it.

Seriously, Weyerbacher… I bet there are loyalists of your beer who would be willing to design your labels for you for free.

Here’s a brief tour of my homebrewing operation, in case you were curious.

And don’t worry - the carboy is usually hidden away in a box to protect it from light and cold. I just took the box away to show it off for this video.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you batch #1 of the Homebrewr series: my Belgian tripel… Three Sheets to the Wind. I’ll be cracking this bad boy open tomorrow.
