The above video is not recommended for vegetarians, animal lovers, or those who find the thought of pork nauseating. It is, however, for those considering attending Pig Island tomorrow on Governors Island. In addition to a bevy of pig-based dishes, there will be a public Sixpoint beer garden, which will include the return of Signal, the smoked helles beer that made an appearance earlier this year during the annual Meatopia event as part of Good Beer Month.
Tickets are still available online and a limited number will be available at the event as well, and if you’re not willing to plunk down $85, a public area with snacks and beer for purchase will also be up and running tomorrow. The weather is shaping up to be quite nice, so it’s a great excuse to take the ferry over to the island and bask in the smell of pork as it wafts from the event.

It’s Captain Lawrence Brewing night at The Pony Bar(637 10th Ave. at 45th St., Hell’s Kitchen). Even last night, they were starting to throw on some kegs, but it’ll reach its peak tonight at 6pm, and Captain Lawrence owner and brewer Scott Vaccaro. There might even be some Golden Delicious on tap.

The Bruery will be at Blind Tiger Ale House(281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) starting at 4pm, where they’ll serve what manager Alan Jestice says are “some very special kegs.” Personally, I hope one of them is their impeccable Autumn Maple, a season-inspired Belgian Strong Ale.

Brooklyn’s Union Hall(702 Union St., at 5th Ave., Park Slope) is already known for its bocce courts, but did you know they have some pretty good beer, too? There’s a Left Hand-sponsored bocce tournament tonight at 7pm, and whether you play or watch, you can grab a pint of Sawtooth Ale on Nitro, Oktoberfest, or Twin Sisters Double IPA from a cask.
There’s beer from another new brewery available in town starting this week. It comes from the Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont, an isolated spot deep in the woods.
But don’t let its remoteness fool you. Brewmaster Shaun Hill makes some very good beer. Hill cut his teeth at other breweries in Vermont, like The Shed in Stowe and Trout River in Lyndonville. Beginning in 2008, Hill spent 20 months in Denmark, earning two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup for beers he brewed at Nørrebro Bryghus in Copenhagen, and starting his own brewery, Grassroots Brewing during his stint there. Now, he returns to Vermont to start his own brewery that focuses on flavorful, hoppy American beers.
Hill Farmstead started distributing in Vermont in April. They were in such high demand from the beginning that they couldn’t participate in the Vermont Brewers Festival in July - they didn’t have enough beer to meet the expected demand. They distributed a few kegs to Philadelphia over the summer that were snapped up overnight, and now they’re coming to New York.
Tomorrow night, Blind Tiger Ale House(281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) will be among the first to serve Hill Farmstead’s beers in New York - conveniently, during craft beer week. The list of beers hasn’t been finalized, but expect to see at least a couple of their core beers - Edward, their American Pale Ale, James, their black ale, and Abner, their Imperial IPA. All beers are named for the men who helped run the Hill Farmstead over generations, and they use well water from the wells on site. Hill has also been partnering with brewers from Denmark, Quebec, and the U.S. on collaboration beers that may pop up from time to time.
Given the small batches (Hill Farmstead runs on a 7 barrel brewing system, or about 200 U.S. gallons), this beer is going to be hard to find, even with distribution in New York. So, get your hands on it while you can.
Happy Monday! It’s Day 4. Here are some of today’s top events that are part of NY Craft Beer Week. For a complete list of all events, head to the NY Craft Beer Week events page.

They’ll also serve some complimentary snacks.
It’s Ithaca Beer Company day from open to close at Sunswick 35/35(35-02 35th St., at 35th Ave., Astoria), where you’ll get another chance to get your hands on the Super Friends IPA, along with White Gold, and Harvest Outdoor Ale.
d.b.a. Brooklyn(113 N. 7th St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) owner Ray Deter will offer up his weekly “Liquids of Interest” tasting. This week’s topic, in honor of NY Craft Beer Week, is local beers.
