Great South Bay is filling this Giant Pumpkin with Splashing Pumpkin Ale, driving a tap into it, and serving up fresh pints at the TJ Finleys’ Halloween Bash, Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7pm.
Wow. Noted.
Guess they take their pumpkin beers literally out on Long Island!
Straight out of Bamberg, Germany, Schlenkerla is a centuries-old brewery best known for its rauchbiers, or smoked beers, still served at its tavern from oak casks. Its Helles was recently named one of the 25 best beers in the world by Men’s Journal. It’s in good company - Rochefort 10, Russian River Pliny the Elder, and Ninkasi Total Domination IPA are on that list, too. And as the only German beer on the list, Schlenkerla pulls its weight in representing its home country.
But what would German beer be without some food to pair with it? That’s where Jimmy’s No. 43(43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) comes in with a beer pairing dinner on Monday, November 15th from 7-9pm that brings the best in German beer and food together. Jimmy’s will host Schlenkerla’s Chef Wolfgang Theil as he creates a menu that pairs these German beers with locally-sourced American food prepared in the German tradition.
Here are the beer-related goings-on after work tonight:
The Double Windsor(210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace) holds their monthly trivia night tonight from 9-11pm. The first-place team wins a ten-beer bar tab - not too shabby for craft beer fans, especially since they’re pouring Founder’s Cherise, Green Flash Imperial IPA, and Southern Tier Mokah Stout right now.
If you’re looking to get educated rather than use your education, Beer Table(427B 7th Ave., at 15th St., Park Slope) will host Jack Algiere of Stone Barns for a talk and tasting on his hop-growing at the non-profit farm in Westchester County tonight at 7pm. The cost is $35, and you can e-mail events [at] beertable.com for tickets.
It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but you still have this sinking feeling that you’d rather be drinking outside while enjoying the autumn weather. Have no fear! We’ve got two great beer events to occupy your time today.
Up in Peekskill, Birdsall House(970 Main St., at Division St., Peekskill) is holding its Fall Fest all day today in the space that will house its future outdoor beer garden once the weather gets warm next year. It might be a bit brisk, but brats fresh from the grill and fall seasonal beers will keep everyone warm as they watch live music. Birdsall House, by the way, is the Westchester County sister of Blind Tiger Ale House.
If you want to break your friends in to craft beer, but they’re still stuck in the “drink as much and as fast as you can” mindset, you might want to head to Greenpoint for Session Obsession at The Diamond(43 Franklin St., at Calyer St., Greenpoint) starting at 3pm today. It’s a celebration of session beers (that’s, roughly, flavorful beers with less than 5% ABV), with ten of them on tap, including some beers making their New York City debut. They’ll also have stuffed cabbage and pretzels to munch on. And since they’ve got a huge patio, you don’t have to feel bad about missing out on this weather, either.
Get outside and enjoy this day! There aren’t many of ‘em left this year.
Starting tonight and running all weekend long, Mugs Alehouse(125 Bedford Ave., at N. 11th St., Williamsburg) will pay tribute to beers brewed in New York State with its I Love NY Beer Weekend. There’s a pretty impressive lineup of beers that will be poured throughout the weekend, and this list isn’t comprehensive - there will be a handful of surprises from these breweries, too.

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work tonight:
It’s Harpoon Third Thursday at Professor Thom’s(219 2nd Ave., at 13th St., East Village) after 8pm. They’ll have plenty of Harpoon on tap for cheap, and with each Harpoon purchase, you get a raffle ticket for free Harpoon schwag, including twelve-packs of Harpoon to take home.
Over in Jersey City, you can meet the brewers of Weyerbacher at Iron Monkey(99 Greene St., at York St., Jersey City) starting at 6pm. They’ll also be pouring those brewers’ beers, like Hops Infusion, Merry Monks, and Blithering Idiot.
You can also meet the brewers of New Jersey Beer Co. tonight at the kickoff to Oktoberfest at Stirling Hotel(227 Stirling Ave., at Railroad Ave., Stirling, NJ). They’ll have three beers from the fledgling brewery on tap tonight starting at 5pm. It’s the start of a full weekend of festivities, which include a tapping of Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout tomorrow and Founders Devil Dancer Triple IPA on Saturday.
