Here are the beer-related goings-on after work in and around New York tonight:

  • The Double Windsor (210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace) hosts Oceanside, New York’s own Barrier Brewing. Starting at 7pm, meet brewers Craig Frymark and Evan Klein and enjoy the Oil City Black IPA, Mare Undarum Belgian IPA, Cycle Saison, and more.
  • Dive Bar (732 Amsterdam Ave., at 96th St., Upper West Side) will have 15 beers on tap tonight for their New York State Beer Tasting. Saranac, Empire, Ithaca, Captain Lawrence, Chatham, and Kelso will all be on tap for this extravaganza that starts at 7pm.

Good Beer Seal announces 7 new certified bars

Jimmy Carbone of Jimmy’s No. 43 unveils this year’s inductees into the Good Beer Seal program

In a ceremony last night at Brooklyn’s Barcade, the Good Beer Seal committee announced seven new bars as inductees. These bars will now proudly display the Good Beer Seal, which certifies New York City bars that don’t just merely offer craft beer, but celebrate it.

The selections were made by a committee of beer experts and writers (full disclosure: the editor of this site was on the committee) who spent two months evaluating newly-opened bars and some neighborhood favorites that hadn’t been judged in the past two years. The mantra, according to the seal’s founders, is to give craft beer enthusiasts a one-stop shop for finding bars worthy of a visit:

Happy Hour: Good-er Beers

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work in and around New York tonight:

  • Pennsylvania’s Tröegs takes over the taps at Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A, East Village) tonight from 6:30-9pm, with discounts on flights, pints, and growlers of Dreamweaver Wheat, Hop Back Amber, and more.
  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) lost its heart in San Francisco, as tonight’s Tuesday Night Tasting features beers from Anchor Brewing. The event is a free guided tasting and starts at 7pm.
  • Taproom 307 (307 3rd Ave., at 23rd St., Gramercy) is the last stop for “The Blues Brothers,” a celebration of beers from Oskar Blues and Two Brothers. Tonight at 7pm, enjoy four beers on tap from the breweries as they celebrate the beer and the film.
  • Quebecois brewery Hopfenstark will host a tasting at DBGB Kitchen & Bar (299 Bowery, at 1st St., East Village) tonight from 5-7pm. For $25, join in at the bar for three food and beer pairings, like Higgs de Boson Berliner Weisse with sauerkraut and kielbasa.

Happy Hour: Humid, Hot, and Thirsty

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work in and around New York tonight:

  • The first brewery event at the new Barcade Jersey City (163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City) kicks off tonight at 5pm as they host Seattle’s own Elysian. Enjoy the Yuzu sour ale aged in yuzu juice, Idiot Sauvin IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops, and the suspiciously-named but delicious Men’s Room Red Amber Ale, along with ten other brews. And, they’ll be shucking oysters, too!
  • Speaking oysters, enjoy oysters and beer with Bear Republic tonight at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) starting at 5pm. This weekly event invites a brewery to the bar to offer up a delicious pay-as-you-go beer and oyster extravaganza.
  • Weyerbacher takes over the taps at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) tonight at 7pm, with the Blithering Idiot barleywine, Papa Scotch Ale, Summer Ale, and more on tap. Plus, they’ll tap a keg of a very special summer batch of Imperial Pumpkin, in case the hot weather has you dreaming of fall already.

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work in and around New York tonight:

  • Like the Mikkeller Single Hop series? Then you’ll love tonight’s event at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village), which will offer 19 IPAs made from the same base recipe, but each with a different hop. Some of the highlights: Citra, Palisade, Sorachi Ace, and Super Galena. They’ll be pouring ‘em all until they run out.
  • Weyerbacher is at The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) tonight starting at 6pm, with Merry Monks, Hops Infusion, Blithering Idiot, and more on tap, plus a Pennsylvania culinary favorite: free scrapple!
