Sixpoint Delivers! Cans now available through FreshDirect

image

Why go out to the store when you can get four-packs of cans - err, nanokegs - of Sixpoint’s The Crisp, Sweet Action, and Bengali Tiger through FreshDirect starting today? Sure, at $10.99, they’re a little bit pricier than the brick-and-mortar retailers, but that’s the price you pay for the convenience of ordering beer in your skivvies.

Meanwhile, Sixpoint leaked via Twitter that their next new canned offering will be something they’ve never brewed before. We’ll keep tabs on that new development and give you details as we get them.

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work in and around New York tonight:

  • The largest selection of beers from Greenport Harbor ever assembled in one place will be at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) tonight starting at 7pm for their tap takeover. Summer Ale, Canard Noire, Ahtamatic IPA, and much more will be on tap, and they’re promising a cask or two, too.
  • Sycamore (1118 Cortelyou Rd., at Westminster Rd., Ditmas Park) celebrates Sixpoint’s new cans by selling $2 cans of all their newly-canned brews in their backyard tonight from 7-11pm. They’ll have a DJ spinning, too, and the first 50 people through the door get a free hot dog from the grill.
  • It’s Cider Appreciation Night at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village). Get a flight of four ciders from all over the world for $8. Plus, for the admission price of one cider, you can head to the back room to hear Louisa Spencer and Steve Wood of Farnum Hill Ciders speak.
  • Meantime is at Bronx Ale House (216 W. 238th St., at Broadway, Kingsbridge, Bronx) tonight starting at 6pm, pouring six brews from the London brewer. Assistant Head Brewer, Christian Ryan, will be on hand as well.
  • Over in Jersey, Pearl River, New York’s Defiant is at Texas Arizona (76 River St., at Hudson Pl., Hoboken) tonight at 7:30pm. Enjoy Muddy Creek Lager, Medusa IPA, and more, plus meet brewer Jeff Disanza.
  • At The Iron Monkey (97 Greene St., at York St., Jersey City, NJ), they’ve got an Ithaca tap takeover tonight from 7-9pm, with Dark Humor, Apricot Wheat, and more on tap on the roof, and a poster raffle.

Celebrate Barrier’s First Anniversary Saturday at 61 Local

Barrier’s Evan Klein and Craig Frymark hoist their TAP NY trophy for Best Brewery in New York State last month

Fresh off their Best in New York win at this year’s TAP NY festival, tiny Barrier Brewing in Oceanside is having one heck of a first year. So, naturally, they’ll be celebrating this weekend in Brooklyn the only way they know how: with beer!

61 Local (61 Bergen St., at Smith St., Carroll Gardens) will be the site of Barrier’s First Anniversary Party on Saturday starting at 5pm. Admission is free, and you don’t need to be on any list - just show up! The bar will pour 13 of Barrier’s beers, including Gosillla Gose, CaddyWompus English Pale Bitter, Ruthless Rye, Cycle Saison, and many more. You’d be hard-pressed to find this many beers from the same nanobrewer in any other place, but they’ve stashed them away just for the party.

Beer, of course, isn’t the only feature. Evan Klein and Craig Frymark, who team together to do everything that keeps this brewery running (brewing, marketing, sales, and distribution) will be on-hand to talk about their brews. They’ll also have Barrier merchandise, discounted pricing, and a pesto sub made with Frymark’s own locally-sourced pesto.

Best of all, while all pours will be $4 at the bar Saturday night, you can get them even cheaper by going to BeerMenus and buying a ticket in advance that grants you three beers for just $9.

Happy Anniversary to Barrier. With the success they’ve had in Year One, we’re expecting many more anniversaries to come.

Happy Hour: The Goose Invasion

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work tonight:

  • Pretty Things rolls out their summer lager, American Darling, at The Pony Bar (637 10th Ave. at 45th St., Hell’s Kitchen) tonight from 5-8pm. They’ll also have some other goodies from the Massachusetts-based gypsy brewer, including Baby Tree, St. Botolph’s Town, and the December 6, 1855 East India Porter.
  • Before the brewery is gutted by Anheuser-Busch/InBev (just kidding, we think), Goose Island takes over Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) today starting at 4pm. Try the Lolita Belgian Pale Ale, Scully Strawberry Saison, Samovar smoked wheat ale with Russian black tea, and many more rarities and surprises… like, say, a couple versions of their Bourbon County Stout.
  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) focuses on Lambics for tonight’s Tuesday Night Tasting. Get your taste buds for some uniquely flavored aged beers. The event is a free guided tasting and starts at 7pm.
  • Meanwhile, in honor of their Cider Week, this week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) salutes ciders, with both some domestic ciders like Doc’s and Crispin, and rarer imports from the UK and France. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.

Growler Frenzy continues with The Filling Station

image

Chelsea Market’s The Filling Station (75 9th Avenue, at 15th St., Chelsea) has been known for offering fresh pours of olive oils, vinegars, and salts to take home. So it was only natural that its next step would be to offer beer to take home. They have made it so: beginning next Wednesday, June 29th, they will start offering growlers of beer to-go.

They’ll kick off that evening with a tasting from Sixpoint, who will serve Sweet Action, Bengali Tiger, The Crisp, and Righteous Rye, along with a Belgian Pale Ale brewed specifically for the Filling Station called Hopline.

We’ll celebrate this along with news that Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) has also started selling growlers of select beers on tap - to stay or to-go - for 3 times the price of a pint. That’s 4 pints for the price of 3!

Add these two to another recent surprising entrant to the growler craze - a bodega in Chinatown at 52 Canal Street. They’ve got three beers on tap, and they’re selling growler fills for a mere $10.
