New York Craft Beer Week Passports now available

image

Have we neglected to mention that the fourth annual New York Craft Beer Week is less than a month away? Starting September 16th, it’s a nonstop ten days of craft beer events, from brewery nights to bar crawls to premier events like Brewers Choice.

But the highlight of the week is this little booklet, pictured above - the New York Beer Passport. This bad boy gets you discounts on craft beer at over 125 different bars and restaurants in all five boroughs. Those discounts can range from a buck off a pint all the way up to a free beer, depending on the venue. And best of all, you don’t have to rush to soak up all the cheap beer during Craft Beer Week; there are discounts that are good for a whole year.

The best part? It’s only $10, and it just went on sale today. So get one, quickly, so you can start plotting your winding route through the beer bars of the five boroughs.

One day soon, there will be a bar here. (Photo via Beer Authority NYC on Facebook)

We’ve known all summer about a new project that the owners of Rattle-N-Hum are involved in, but now, we have the pictures to prove it: Beer Authority NYC (300 W. 40th St., at 8th Ave., Hell’s Kitchen) is under construction and will make a big splash on the New York beer scene when it opens this fall.

The craft beer bar and growler shop will have a whopping 80 taps on three levels, a kitchen, and eventually, a rooftop bar.

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

Here are the beer-related goings-on after work tonight in and around New York:

  • Tonight, Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) dedicates their taps to Pretty Things for their “Pretty Things Social.” They’ll have a bunch of lagers on tap starting at 7pm, including the summer seasonal Hedgerow Bitter, plus more whimsical, old-school brews.
  • A bit further south, Smuttynose has an event at Toby’s Public House (686 6th Ave., at 21st St., South Slope) from 7-10pm. They’ll have tons of brew from the Portsmouth, New Hampshire brewery on tap and in bottles (and, we hope, none of that Pumpkin Ale - TOO SOON!).
  • The Iron Monkey (97 Greene St., at York St., Jersey City) hosts Sierra Nevada tonight at 6pm. They’ll have t-shirt and glassware giveaways, but more importantly, some great beer: Hop Smack, a rare black IPA, Ovila Saison, and Southern Hemisphere Harvest will all be on tap.
  • As we mentioned yesterday, The Diamond (43 Franklin St., at Calyer St., Greenpoint) celebrates their Summer Session Movie Night tonight starting at 8pm. Enjoy screenings of two summer movies and refreshing session beers like Two Brothers Long Haul and the new Brooklyn Radius.
  • Brouwerij Lane (78 Greenpoint Ave., at Franklin St., Greenpoint) says, ‘tis the Saison! Starting today, and running through Saturday, they’ll celebrate the saison with The Bruery 7-Grain Saison, Greenport Harbor Canard Noir, Saison Dupont, and more. They’ll also offer a $20 flight of five six-ounce pours.
  • For those of you who can’t get enough of Long Island, Blue Point is this week’s visitor in the brewery series at Slainte (304 Bowery, at 1st Street, NoHo) tonight from 8-10pm. They’ll have pint specials, prizes, and giveaways.

Village Voice launches Brooklyn Pour, a craft beer festival

image

Beer lovers: mark your calendars for October 15th. That’s when the Village Voice will hold their first-ever craft beer festival. They’re calling it Brooklyn Pour, and it’ll feature over 100 different craft beers, along with food vendors and entertainment in a pretty cool space - Skylight One Hanson in Fort Greene.

The one-session, three-hour festival will be a new signature event for the VV - think Choice Eats - and might be a game-changer for craft beer fans in New York City yearning for another good beer festival.
