So, Hurricane Irene is heading up the coast and seems to have its eyes set on New York City. Here are the beer-related goings-on after work tonight in and around New York:
- It’s Michigan Beer Night tonight at The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) starting at 6pm. Enjoy beers from Founders, Arcadia, and Kuhnhenn’s, and taste some free venison canapes from 6-8!
- Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) hosts The Bruery today starting at 3pm, with some amazing brews from SoCal, including Hottenroth Berliner Weisse, Iniquitous Belgian Strong Pale Ale, Loakal Red, the Bierbauch Maibock, and many more.
- 4th Avenue Pub (76 4th Ave., at Bergen St., Boerum Hill) taps a keg of Cigar City Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout at 3pm today. Get your hands on a glass of this rare, potent brew before it’s gone.
- Brooklyn Brew Shop, Bierkraft, and Brooklyn Brewery partner up for Edible Brooklyn’s How to Brew at Brooklyn Brewery (79 North 11th St., at Wythe Ave., Williamsburg). Starting at 7:30pm, have a beer while watching a homebrewing demonstration. Plus, sample the Brew Shop’s awesome Jalapeno Saison, a dry farmhouse ale with a peppery kick! Tickets are $5, and you can purchase Brooklyn brews for just $4.

Tickets went on sale this morning for the Village Voice’s Brooklyn Pour, a celebration of beer they’re throwing on October 15th. General Admission tickets are $40, and VIP passes, which include an extra hour of drinking and a private VIP lounge, are $60.
But the more significant announcement about the festival came within the list of the first wave of breweries confirmed to pour at the event.

- Ballast Point is at Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A) tonight from 6:30-9:30p. Enjoy plenty of delicious beers from California, including Sculpin IPA, plus discounts on pints and growlers.
- This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates Spiced & Fruit Beers. $10 gets you six tastings of beers bursting with flavor, like Hitachino Nest Real Ginger Brew, Lindemans Faro Lambic, and De 3 Horne Bananantana. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.
- Brooklyn Brew Shop does a live homebrewing demo and tasting tonight from 6-9pm at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg). Watch them make beer while you sip a sample of their Blackberry Red homebrew. Then, you can buy a kit and make it at home!
- Valhalla (815 9th Ave., at 54th St., Hell’s Kitchen) hosts a New York Craft Beer Night tonight at 7pm, dedicating their taps to local beer, with brews from Empire, Shmaltz, Sixpoint, and many more.

We knew it was only a matter of time until Duane Reade added to their little empire of “Brew York City” growler bars, which already has locations in Williamsburg and on the Upper West Side. Now we know where the third location in the craft beer dispensing concept will be.
