Bïeryonce Makes Late Night TV

Brooklyn’s Lineup Brewing made waves on the late-night talk show circuit this week as NBC’s Seth Meyers delivered a punchline about the new Bieryonce German-style Pilsner that debuted last weekend. “A Brooklyn-based brewery has released a beer named after Beyonce named Bieryonce,” the host joked on Monday night’s show. “And it’s selling a lot better than their Jay-Zima.” No word on if brewer Kat Martinez actually has a Jay-Zima in the works.

Thoughts on a thousand breweries

You never forget your first brewery. I was 21 and working in radio sales at the time, and my boss at the time took me out for a liquid lunch at Empire Brewing Company’s brewpub in downtown Syracuse, New York to celebrate a sale I had just closed. I took interest in his suggestion, since I had recently discovered craft beer from Saranac and Ithaca that was enjoyable and flavorful — I had graduated from the Labatt Blue and Natty Light I usually had at college parties. It was my first time drinking fresh beer at the source, and it set me on the adventure I’m on to this day.

Get Juiced This Weekend

The holiday rush is on, but if you need a break from the holiday parties and shopping and have a hankering for hazy IPAs, Hop Culture’s Juicy Brews is for you. The event on Sunday at Industria in the West Village is a two-session celebration of New England-style IPAs from breweries in the city (Finback, LIC Beer Project), the region (Sand City, Hudson Valley), and around the East (The Answer, Foundation, RAR). The first session gets underway at 11am, with a second session at 3pm. Tickets start at $65.

Turkey, Pie, Beer

Thanksgiving is a time for family, but for those who don’t have a family in New York, your beer family is there for you. Spring Lounge offers a complimentary Thanksgiving dinner starting at 3pm by friend of the bar chef Jeff Maslanka. The beer and booze will be flowing all day. Greenpoint Beer & Ale Co. hosts their 5th Annual Orphans Thanksgiving at their taproom, featuring a Mexican dinner from Maisey Sunday Tacos (bring a dessert to share). Tickets are $65 and include beer and wine, plus an 8pm screening of This is Spinal Tap. $10 of each ticket goes to the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen.

If you’re looking to escape Thanksgiving dinner and are looking for a good excuse, The Owl Farm in Park Slope offers an extravaganza of special brews at their annual Post-Thanksgiving Dinner event. Doors open at 6pm Thursday, and they’ll offer a cornucopia of beer styles: fruited sour beers, spontaneous fermented sour beers, saisons, harvest ales, ciders, and more out of their cellar.

Randolph Beer DUMBO opens

The city’s 35th brewery has officially opened to the public: Randolph Beer (77 Sands St, DUMBO), the bar chainlet with locations in Williamsburg and Nolita, swung open the doors to their new brewpub in DUMBO last night. Brooklyn Brewery vet JR Jordan is at the helm of the 7-barrel brewhouse on Sands Street, where he’s making a variety of house-brewed beers to serve long side their Southern-influenced food menu. Like their Williamsburg location, this outpost of Randolph Beer has a pour-your-own beer wall they call the “Beer ATM,” allowing you to pour as much or as little as you’d like of their house and guest taps. Randolph is the ninth brewery to go on line this year in the five boroughs.

Another taproom opens

New York City’s newest brewery taproom is now open. Fifth Hammer Brewing Co. (10-28 46th Ave, Long Island City) opened to the public officially this month, and their space has been hopping since day one. Open seven days a week, the taproom sports a long bar with lots of seating, more gathering space, a communal chalkboard wall, a view of the brewery, and a wide variety of their beers on tap, including the Cherry Giggle Gaggle Berliner Weisse, Neighborbrau Pilsner, Flavor Gravy Stout (with a coconut version), and the Tactical Panic IPA. Fifth Hammer is the fifth brewery to open in Long Island City since 2012.
