Happy Hour: Down a Black Hole

Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in New York after work tonight:

  • Throughout the day and night, The Ginger Man (11 E. 36th St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) presents six versions of Danish brewer Mikkeller’s Imperial Stout, Black Hole Stout. Each version is barrel-aged - one in bourbon barrels, and others in cognac barrels, peat whiskey barrels, red and white wine barrels, and tequila barrels.
  • If you didn’t get your fix at Rattle-N-Hum last night, Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) hosts Avery Brewing today starting at 3pm. Among the 16 Avery brews on tap: a 2009 vintage Mephistopheles, The Czar, and Lilikoi Mahu - their White Rascal brewed with five pounds of passion fruit per five gallons.
  • The Learning to Beer series at Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village) features Anderson Valley tonight at 7pm. For just $10, sample Winter Solstice, Mowkeef Saison, Boont Amber, and more. In addition to sampling five beers, you’ll get two full beers, plus an order of tater tots!
  • Bier International (2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd., at 113th St., Harlem) hosts the Harlem premiere of the Bronx Brewery’s Bronx Pale Ale tonight from 6-10pm. In addition to serving the beer (at half price!), they’ll be offering a pairing menu created by chef Adriano Flor Santos and Bronx brewer Damian Brown.
  • It’s “Beers of San Diego Night” at The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) tonight from 6-9pm. Enjoy beers from New York newcomer Mission Brewery, plus Green Flash, Ballast Point, and Stone Brewing. As always, they’ll have free snacks at 6pm, too.

Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in New York after work tonight:

  • Avery blows out a ton of beer at Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) today starting at 4pm. Some of the big beers on tap: The Beast (14.9% ABV), Meph Addict (16% ABV), and the seasonal Rumpkin (13.8% ABV). They’re not messing around here!
  • Nor are they messing around at The Pony Bar (637 10th Ave. at 45th St., Hell’s Kitchen), where Southern Tier takes over all 20 taps tonight, with big beers like Jahva (10.4% ABV), Gemini Imperial IPA (10.5% ABV), and Oak-Aged Unearthly IPA (11% ABV). Don’t worry, they’ll have some more sessionable beers on tap, too!
  • Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) dedicates their weekly $10 Tuesday Tasting series to beers from Nebraska Brewing Company this week. Taste six different beers, including the Wick for Brains Pumpkin Ale, Hop God Belgian Double IPA, and Fathead Barleywine for just 10 damn dollars. The event gets underway at 7:30pm.
  • Empire takes over some of taps tonight at 7pm at Bierkraft (191 5th Ave., at Berkeley Pl., Park Slope) for a Tuesday Night Tasting. They’ll be pouring the Amber Ale, Hop Harvest, Pumpkin, and plenty of others as part of their weekly free tasting. Get there early for a seat!
