We were there: New York authors celebrate beer books!
image

Last night, Brew York, New York stopped by two book release parties from local authors. Naturally, they were both releasing beer books.

Erica Shea and Stephen Valand of Brooklyn Brew Shop celebrated the release of their Beer Making Book at a loft in DUMBO, serving eight of their seasonal beer recipes in the book, along with tasty treats from local food vendors, including Kors d'Oeuvres and Whole Foods.

Meanwhile, at the cool and funky City Reliquary in Williamsburg, a crowd was on hand to celebrate the release of Joshua Bernstein’s Brewed Awakening, a scrapbook-like tour through the world of craft beer. Kelso, Barrier, and the forthcoming SingleCut Beersmiths served beer while the grill was chock full of carnivore and herbivore-friendly foods.

Congratulations to all of the authors for helping to put New York on the craft beer map!

A slideshow of a few pictures from the events are after the jump…

Beer Odds and Ends: Stop, Collaborate, and Listen

Our friends at Great South Bay are gearing up for their brewery expansion, which will undoubtedly give them a foothold in New York City. This morning, they took delivery on their new 30-barrel brewing system, which is a big step above their current system, which has forced them to brew some of their beer at other breweries throughout the New York area just to meet demand in their small footprint that’s been primarily focused on Long Island.

They hope to have the system up and running by the end of the year. In the meantime, you can spot their beer occasionally at Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) who has the Robert Moses Pale Ale on tap right now. Also, look for the release of their winter seasonal Sleigh Ryed in the coming weeks. It’s a red rye ale brewed with juniper berries. They’ll celebrate the release with a pub crawl out on Long Island on November 25th, with a special cask at each of the four stops.

More news, from Sixpoint to Bronx Brewery, and cans to firkins, after the jump…
