Beer Odds and Ends: Brunch and Growlers

image

If you like brunch and beer, you’ll love an event we’ve helped plan with our friends at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village). On Saturday, November 19th from 1-4pm, they’ll host the Five Brewers Brunch, with fresh beer from five  breweries, visits from local brewers, and a walk around brunch buffet with tasty breakfast foods from Tchoup Shop and Jimmy’s.

On the beer end, we’ll have beers from Barrier Brewing, Pretty Things, Crossroads, Blind Bat, and Wandering Star. On the food end, enjoy items like black-and-tan pancakes, banh mi biscuits with pork belly, country ham, and lots more. It’s an all-you-can-care-to-eat-and-drink event, so come hungry and thirsty.

Tickets are available through BeerMenus.com for just $45 right now. Hope to see you there!

Upcoming beer bar openings, and another place to fill your growlers, after the jump…

Your first look at On Tap at Whole Foods Columbus Circle

image

It’s official: On Tap at Whole Foods Columbus Circle (10 Columbus Circle, at 59th St., Upper West Side) is now open. The enclosed beer bar is on the north end of the store (from the escalator, it’s off to the right, near the cashier area.

Our first take? Holy crap, we’re in a beer bar in a grocery store! And it’s so well-executed that you kind of lose perspective that you’re in a Whole Foods. The vibe is a bit like a gastropub, with treated wood and shelves full of growlers. The service is a bit like a beer garden, with communal tables and food and beer ordered only at the counter, which doubles as a bar. There’s also portraits of our local brewers on the walls: Shane Welch from Sixpoint, Garrett Oliver from Brooklyn, Kelly Taylor from Kelso of Brooklyn, and Scott Vaccaro from Captain Lawrence

Details on the beer and food, plus a slideshow, after the jump…
