A beer bar for every occasion

image

Every now and then, we get asked for a beer bar recommendation. Usually, it starts as something like, “hey, what’s a bar with good beer and [insert other characteristic here]?”

Given the sheer number of drinking establishments in and around New York City, we think there should be an answer to every single one of those questions. So, we’re compiling some of those questions here for your convenience. And if one isn’t answered here, ask away by contacting us via the contact info in the sidebar to the right!

Smorgasburg + Brooklyn Brewery = Smorgasbrewery

image

The beloved food-based version of Brooklyn Flea, Smorgasburg, has been hugely successful since its launch in the spring. But as the good weather comes to a close and winter rears its ugly head, we figured Smorgasburg was going to close up shop for the season and come back in the Spring.

But not so fast! Smorgasburg has an indoor location now, and it’s none other than Brooklyn Brewery!

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, December 1st. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight (it’s a long list… strap in!):

  • Tonight at 7pm at Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village), they serve up a tasting of two beers that exclusively use Centennial and Cascade hops: Bronx Brewery Pale Ale and Victory Hop Devil. Folks from both breweries will be in attendance to walk you through the beers and explain why these hops kick other hops’ asses.
  • Harpoon takes the taps at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) tonight starting at 7pm. Expect at least nine beers from the Boston and Vermont-based brewers, including a 2010 vintage Leviathan Barleywine, the Winter Warmer, and the newest 100-Barrel Series beer, Vermont Spruce Tip Ale.
  • Brooklyn Brewery pours samples of their seasonal beers and serves up cheese pairings from 5-8pm tonight at Greene Grape Provisions (753 Fulton St., at S. Portland Ave., Fort Greene). If you’ve been itching to get a taste of their exclusive BAMboozle, brewed for the 150th birthday of BAM, this is the place to try it!
  • Standings (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) throws their Southern Tier Festival tonight at 6pm, with four beers on tap, including Iniquity, 2XIPA, and the last keg of Pumking for the season! At 8pm, as always, they’ll serve up free pizza.
  • Puck Fair (298 Lafayette St., at Houston St., Soho) hosts Founders tonight, pouring the Dry-Hopped Pale Ale, Dirty Bastard, Centennial IPA, and the beloved Breakfast Stout from 6-10pm.
  • Over in Jersey City, The Iron Monkey (97 Greene St., at York St., Jersey City, NJ) hosts Utah’s Uinta starting at 7pm. They’ll have Tilted Smile, Anglers Pale Ale, Cockeyed Cooper, and many more on tap in an effort to prove to you that there is good beer from Utah.
  • Barcade Jersey City (163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City) hosts Victory tonight starting at 5pm. Enjoy the Golden Monkey, Hop Wallop, a 2010 vintage Old Horizontal barleywine, and a bunch more beers, and meet co-founder Bill Covaleski, who we just noticed has the word “ale” in the middle of his last name. Coincidence? We think not!

Happy Hour: With a Québécois flair

It’s Wednesday, November 30th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Dieu de Ciel! is at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) today starting at 3pm. Enjoy 16 beers from their Quebec-based brewery, including the Peche Mortel aged in Bourbon Barrels. Don’t worry, the event runs all night long, so have at it!
  • Taproom 307 (307 3rd Ave., at 24th St., Murray Hill) hosts a battle of Pennsylvania beers tonight starting at 7pm. They’ll pour selections from both Troegs and Victory Breweries, and you’ll vote for your favorite!
  • Josh Bernstein signs his book Brewed Awakening tonight at 7pm at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) in an event with Pretty Things. Meet the author of the craft beer scrapbook, plus enjoy Babayaga, Our Finest Regards, and more.
  • Dogfish Head takes over the taps at The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) tonight in one of the biggest tap takeovers we’ve seen there in recent memory. This is not to be missed, given one mind-blowing beer they’re be offering: Immort Ale through a Randall filled with vanilla bourbon-soaked bacon. Plus, they’ll have Bitches’ Brew, 120 Minute IPA, and many, many more… and free pork belly BLT sliders at 6pm.
