Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, December 15th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Barcade (388 Union Ave., at Ainslie St., Williamsburg) holds its annual Winter Beer Night tonight starting at 5pm… and the tap list is a doozy! The Bruery 4 Calling Birds, Dogfish Head Faithfull, He'brew Jewbelation 15, and the Kelso Cabernet Quad Bock are just a few of the 20 or so beers they’ll be throwing on tap tonight. Drink early and often, but save some for your dear editor, who celebrates his 30th birthday there on Saturday night.
  • Pretty Things pays a visit to Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg) tonight from 7-10pm, pouring Our Finest Regards, Jack D'or, Babayaga, and more! And naturally, Pretty Things’ man about town, Jim Barnes, will be spinning the finest records possible to keep it classy.
  • Head to The Gate (321 5th Ave., at 3rd St., Park Slope) for beers from Lagunitas tonight at 7pm. Would you believe this is their sixth year doing this event? Yup - and it’s just as good as ever. They’ll pour eleven brews from Petaluma, including the Sucks Holiday Ale, Hop Stoopid on cask, and a 2007 Brown Shugga for those mourning the fact that it wasn’t brewed this year.
  • It’s that time again! The monthly IPA Night at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) is tonight, with tons of IPAs on tap starting at 7pm. Among them, Bear Republic Racer 5, Roosterfish Raven Black IPA, Two Brothers Resistance, and a ton more that are pleasing to the bitter taste buds on your tongue.
  • If you’re in the holiday spirit, it’s A Night of Christmas Ales tonight at Standings (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village). They’ll have Anchor Christmas Ale, Sly Fox Christmas Ale, the new Harpoon Vermont Spruce Tip Ale, and more on starting at 6pm. As always, free food at 8pm… this time, it’s brats from Wechsler’s!
  • It’s Troegs Night at Brouwerij Lane (78 Greenpoint Ave., at Franklin St., Greenpoint) tonight from 7-10pm. Enjoy the seasonal Mad Elf, Hopback Amber, and two beers from their Scratch Beer Series, #50 Belgian Brown Ale and #52 T2 Ale.
  • For those into other fermented beverages, the Astoria-based Beyond Kombucha celebrates its debut at The Queens Kickshaw (40-17 Broadway, at 41st St., Astoria) tonight from 6-9pm. These aren’t your mother’s kombuchas: they’re an alcohol-positive kombucha brewer. They’ll present their Mava Roka, a maple vanilla Rooibos kombucha ale that clocks in at 6.3% ABV, tonight at the event. They make your standard low-alcohol kombuchas, too, for the less adventurous.
