Happy Hour: Breakfast of Champions

It’s Wednesday, January 18th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Get your fix of three amazing beers from Founders all in one spot. 4th Avenue Pub (76 4th Ave., at Bergen St., Boerum Hill) hosts their “Founders Breakfast of Champions” event tonight at 7pm, serving Breakfast Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and Canadian Breakfast Stout all on tap. And, uh, they’ll pair them with breakfast cereals, apparently? Works for me.
  • Sixpoint throws their tap takeover at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) starting at 3pm today, and running all night long. Among the brews on tap, two beers from their Mad Scientists series, the Signal smoked IPA, Gorilla Warfare porter, and a cask of beer dry-hopped with Columbus hops from Blind Tiger owner Dave Broderick’s own farm in Vermont.
  • It’s Stone Night at Taproom 307 (307 3rd Ave., at 24th St., Murray Hill) starting at 6pm. Enjoy brews from some rare and specialty kegs from the San Diego County brewery you know and love!

Happy Hour: Get Imperial

It’s Tuesday, January 17th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Imperial Beer Night at Mission Dolores (249 4th Ave., at Carroll St., Park Slope). Starting at 7pm, drink up so highly potent brews like Firestone Walker 15, Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA, and the 2010 Avery Samael’s. But pace yourself!
  • This week’s Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) Tuesday tasting hosts Narragansett, with the Lager and Porter, plus ciders from Original Sin. The free tasting gets underway at 7pm.
  • Dogfish Head kicks off a week at Downtown Bar & Grill (160 Court St., at Dean St., Cobble Hill) starting tonight at 5pm. They’ll have a cask of 75 Minute IPA, plus 12 other lines of new and vintage DFH beers on tap kicking off a week-long celebration of Milton, Delaware’s finest brews.
  • The weekly Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) features high-lovibond beers! Lovibond is the scale by which malt darnkess - and the eventual darkness of beer - is measure. In other words, you’ll get six tastings of some dark beers for $10, including Fuller’s London Porter, Ommegang Adoration, and Dieu du Ciel! Peche Mortel. The tasting gets underway tonight at 7:30pm.

What’s Cooking: Pork & White Bean Beer Chili

image

Beer isn’t just for drinking; it’s for cooking, too! The Brew York, New York kitchen is experimenting with beer-based food recipes, and when they actually work, we’re sharing them with you! Here’s a recipe for a white bean chili using Narragansett Lager. Naturally, that’s not the only beer you can use, but we recommend a lightly-hopped, light-bodied American Lager for this recipe so it doesn’t overpower the heat of the green chiles. We think this is the perfect simple, hearty recipe for those cold winter months.

Happy cooking!

Your Beery Weekend: January 13-15

image

Well, if you were saving up some of your annual beer consumption for the annual Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade, you might as well start drinking now, since it was cancelled today. We’re secretly celebrating because of the massive amounts of truly awful, cheap beer that was consumed in the Mile Square that day. And we don’t appreciate the abuse of alcohol in any form, whether it’s overconsumption or spillage.

Anyway, Meatloaf’s up there on the top of this post. Wondering why? Read down for a rundown of this weekend’s beer events.
