First Look at New York Beer Company

image

Just a block from Times Square, you’d expect to find some sort of tourist-trap bar where you’re going to get slammed with an $8 Bud Light. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we realized New York Beer Company (321 W. 44th St., at 8th Ave., Midtown West) isn’t one of those places. While it’s not a temple to high-end, rare beers, it’s an excellent option for a good, local craft beer, and it’s a crowd-pleasing kind of bar, too.

  • This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates the German beers from B. United Imports’ portfolio! $10 gets you six tastings of beers, including Schlenkerla Oak Smoke and Professor Fritz Briem 1809 Berliner Weisse. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.
  • Cider lovers can head to Coopers Craft & Kitchen (87 2nd Ave., at 5th St., East Village) for a Crispin promotion from 9-11pm. Hurry, before Miller Coors ruins them! We’re kidding, of course, but don’t think this news isn’t going to do to cider snobs what the Goose Island acquisition did to beer snobs.
