It’s Thursday, March 22nd. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • As we mentioned earlier today, Left Hand celebrates the release of their Milk Stout in bottles tonight from 5-8pm at Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A), Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg), The Growler Station (26 W. 8th St., at MacDougal St., Greenwich Village), City Swiggers (320 E. 86th St., at 2nd Ave., Upper East Side), Top Hops Beer Shop (94 Orchard St., at Broome St., Lower East Side), and Whole Foods Bowery Beer Room (95 E. Houston St., at Chrystie St., Lower East Side). Then, head to a Left Hand after-party at Union Hall (702 Union St. at 5th Ave., Park Slope) from 11pm-2am, with the Milk Stout and various other Left Hand brews on tap!
  • The East Coast v. West Coast Heavy Metal Brew Tour makes its next stop tonight at The Gate (321 5th Ave., at 3rd St., Park Slope). At 7pm, they’ll play heavy metal from both coasts and serve beer from both coasts. In the East Coast corner: Victory and Smuttynose! In the West Coast corner: Ballast Point and Lagunitas! You get to decide who reins supreme!
  • Coopers Craft & Kitchen (87 2nd Ave., at 5th St., East Village) celebrates Big Beers tonight! Starting at 6pm, get some big, flavorful brews like Mikkeller/Three Floyds Boogoop, Flying Dog Barrel-Aged Gonzo, North Coast Old Stock, and more!
  • Head to Jersey for Climax Brewing Night at Barcade Jersey City (163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City) starting at 4pm. They’ll be pouring the 15th Anniversary Barleywine, the retired Bavarian Dark, the classic Golden Ale, and more!
  • Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) begins a new Thursday tradition: the Thursday Tap. Each week at 5pm, they’ll tap a rare keg, and you’ll get to unleash a frenzy on it. This week, it’s the Zymatore Thornbridge Raven Black IPA matured in Ransom Distillery Whiskey/Pinot Noir barrels. Sounds crazy? Crazy good, maybe!
  • Anderson Valley hits The Growler (55 Stone St., at Pearl St., Financial District) tonight from 6-9pm, presenting some special edition brews from the Boonville, California-based brewers!
  • Lagunitas visits Puck Fair (298 Lafayette St., at Houston St., Soho) tonight from 6-8pm. Enjoy some brews from California!

Meet the new Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro Bottle tonight

The above is a demonstration of the brilliant new product from Longmont, Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing. For the past two years, they’ve been producing kegs of their Milk Stout on nitro, poured through a tap with a gas mixture that’s roughly 75 percent nitrogen, giving the beer a delicious creamy smoothness. But that creaminess is difficult to replicate with nitrogen gas in a bottle. Guinness, for example, uses a “widget” that releases nitrogen when the pressure within the bottle or can changes. But why with the widget? Why not just put the beer in a bottle?

Happy Hour: Jerky Hour

It’s Wednesday, March 21st. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • The new Slantshack/Bronx Brewery jerky will be released at a public tasting event tonight from 6-8pm at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village). Enjoy the Bronx Pale Ale Jerky, and pair it with the Bronx Pale Ale on tap.

Spring has sprung! Where to drink craft beer outside in New York

While many of us have already taken off our outdoor drinking training wheels for the season, there’s months of outdoor drinking weather ahead.   • Kelso of Brooklyn partners with Whole Foods’ foundation, Whole Planet, today from 3pm till close at On Tap at Whole Foods Columbus Circle (10 Columbus Circle, at 59th St., Upper West Side). They’ll have $5 pints, and proceeds will go towards the foundation, which helps to alleviate poverty through microcredits.
