The Alchemist’s Heady Topper coming to NYC this spring

image

Vermont Brewery (and former brewpub) The Alchemist has had a wild year. Just a week before they were about to cut their ribbon on a brewery up the road from their location in Waterbury, Vermont, flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Irene gutted their brewpub. It was a total loss, but given the lauding they had already received from beer geeks, the craft beer community came out in full force to support them (and the town of Waterbury) after the disaster. And as the cleanup began, so did canning of their well-respected double IPA, Heady Topper, and the buzz around The Alchemist never stopped. Even Vermonters go out of their way to find this beer at stores across the state. And now, it’s coming to New York City.

First Look at Beer Authority

image

After its initial announcement nearly eight months ago, beer lovers who commute through the Port Authority have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the aptly-named  Beer Authority (300 W. 40th St., at 8th Ave., Hell’s Kitchen). It seems to have been worth the wait, and while it may not be a perfect temple to craft beer drinkdom, it’s exactly what the neighborhood needed.

Happy Hour: A case of the Mondays

It’s Monday, April 9th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s VSK (Very Special Keg) Monday at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village). At 5pm, they’ll tap a rare or unique keg of the bar’s choosing. This week, it’s another beer straight outta Vermont, the Hill Farmstead Columbus Pale Ale, a single-hop ale brewed with Columbus hops.
  • Mikkeller Week kicks off tonight at Staten Island’s Adobe Blues (63 Lafayette Ave., at Fillmore St., New Brighton). All week long - or at least until the beer runs out - they’ll celebrate the Danish brewer with beers like I Hardcore You and the Our Side Saison on tap, and much more in bottles, too.
  • Chelsea Brewing Company has overlooked the Hudson for years, but now it finally crosses it with its launch in New Jersey tonight at Barcade Jersey City (163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City). Starting at 6pm, celebrate Chelsea’s debut in the Garden State with several of their beers on tap.
