Bronx Brewery teams up to grow hops in the Bronx

image
Hops like these in Washington State will take a back seat to local hops in a late-year release by Bronx Brewery.

The Bronx Brewery announced today a partnership with Bronx Green-Up and the Cornell Cooperative Extension to grow hops for their beer at community gardens in the Bronx. 125 Cascade hop plants were planted this spring as the brewery teamed up with the Botanical Garden’s community outreach program and even a local Catholic parish. Community gardeners across the borough will maintain the plants for a harvest at the end of the season. The crop will be used to make a special-release Urban Hop beer come harvest time, with all proceeds from the beer going to the Bronx Green-Up Program to support further growth of community gardening in the Boogie Down.

The long-awaited Upper East Side spinoff of The Pony Bar swings its doors open to the public today at 3pm. We were lucky enough to check out the place last night, and we can safely say that if you like the Hell’s Kitchen location, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that very little has changed in its second incarnation at The Pony Bar UES (1444 First Ave. at 75th St., Upper East Side).
