Tomorrow, get an early start with kegs and eggs at Spring Lounge

The early bird catches the worm, they say. But how about the beer? It’s pretty well-known that Spring Lounge (48 Spring St., at Mulberry St., Little Italy) is one of the only bars in town where you can drink a craft beer at 8am. But their early opening gets taken to a whole new level tomorrow morning with their “Zingari Stardust” Kegs and Eggs event with Wandering Star and Pretty Things.

Happy Hour: Get Heady, Use Your Head

It’s Wednesday, June 6th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Head to Beer Boutique (497 Union Ave., at Meeker Ave., Williamsburg) from 6-9pm tonight for a cider and beer tasting featuring Woodchuck, Southampton and more! But here’s the best deal: buy $10 worth of merchandise and you’ll get a raffle ticket to win two cans of The Alchemist Heady Topper. Two cans each will go to 11 lucky winners. They’ll announce the winners tomorrow at 7:30pm, and you’ll have to be present then to pick it up (lest the beer get any less fresh).

  • Then, tonight at 7:30pm, we present our Brews & Clues Trivia Night at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg). Answer trivia questions (some are even about beer) and win beer while you enjoy some fine craft beers like Cisco Summer of Lager, Maine Peeper Ale, Napa Smith Cool Brew, and more!

  • The Gate (321 5th Ave., at 3rd St., Park Slope) features some Stone beers straight from the bar’s cellar, including the 2010 Lukcy Basardt, the 2011 Belgo Imperial Russian Stout, and the Vertical Epic 10.10.10. Things get underway at 7pm, so get there early, because you’ve waited long enough.

  • Allagash takes over the taps at The Double Windsor (210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace) tonight at 7pm. The impressive tap list that’s eight beers strong includes Yakuza, Saison Mihm, Victoria, and more!

  • Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) celebrates saisons today starting at 3pm, pouring some great crisp, flavorful Belgian-style brews like Stillwater As Follows, Saison Dupont, Green Flash Summer Saison, Pretty Things Jack D'Or, and lots more!

  • Weyerbacher pays a visit to Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village) for their weekly $10 Bourbon and Beer Tasting Series. From 7-10pm, $10 gets you 2 full beers and a 3-beer tasting flight from the Pennsylvania brewery, plus a taste of whisky and an order of tater tots!

  • De Dolle visits The Diamond (43 Franklin St., at Calyer St., Greenpoint) tonight starting at 7:30. Enjoy some great Belgian beers and meet brewer Kris Herteleer as they pour the Oerbier, Still Nacht, Arabier, and more!

  • Cafe D’Alsace (1695 2nd Ave., at 88th St., Upper East Side) has a three-course beer-and-food menu celebrating the beers of d’Achoufe starting tonight. From 6-10pm tonight through Saturday, enjoy pairings like Gnomegang and Bouillabaisse Mussels and McChouffe and a Chocolate Tart. The three-courses are $49.95.

Take action: what you can to do save protect beer in New York

We’ve been telling you about a state court ruling back in March and the consequences it had for the brewing industry in New York State. Because an exise tax and labeling fee exemption was ruled unconstitutional, breweries in this state will pay between $10,000 and $1,000,000 - depending on output - in additional taxes and fees this year. That could drive up the cost of beer, drive down innovation and new breweries, and prevent these breweries from hiring new people and creating new jobs.

But YOU can do something to keep this from becoming the harsh new reality in New York State. There is legislation at the state level that would give these brewers a tax credit that’s exactly the amount they’re forced to pay because of the new tax policy. You need to contact your local lawmakers, the State Senate Majority Leader, the State Assembly Speaker, and Governor Cuomo to assure that this legislation makes it to the floor and passes before the legislative session ends for summer recess on June 21st. Time is running out!
