We’ve been telling you about a state court ruling back in March and the consequences it had for the brewing industry in New York State. Because an exise tax and labeling fee exemption was ruled unconstitutional, breweries in this state will pay between $10,000 and $1,000,000 - depending on output - in additional taxes and fees this year. That could drive up the cost of beer, drive down innovation and new breweries, and prevent these breweries from hiring new people and creating new jobs.
But YOU can do something to keep this from becoming the harsh new reality in New York State. There is legislation at the state level that would give these brewers a tax credit that’s exactly the amount they’re forced to pay because of the new tax policy. You need to contact your local lawmakers, the State Senate Majority Leader, the State Assembly Speaker, and Governor Cuomo to assure that this legislation makes it to the floor and passes before the legislative session ends for summer recess on June 21st.
