Happy Hour: Ring the Dinner Bell

It’s Monday, July 9th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) taps their weekly Very Special Keg tonight at 5pm! This week, they’re tapping the Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown Ale, a big boozy 9.0% ABV double IPA.

  • Tickets are just about gone for tonight’s Dogfish Head Ancient Ales Dinner at Craftbar (900 Broadway, at 20th St., Flatiron). The five-course dinner includes pairings like a Summer Green Salad with Midas Touch, Za’atar Spiced Monkfish with Ta Henket, and Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Chateau Jiahu. Tickets are $100 plus tax and gratuity. Dinner starts at 6:30pm; full details are here.

  • Perhaps a beer dinner in Queens is more to your liking? There’s a Founders pairing dinner at Alobar (46-42 Vernon Blvd., at 47th Rd., Long Island City) from 5:30-10pm. Pairings include Red’s Rye PA with Pastrami on Rye and the Porter with a Chocolate Oatmeal Chipwich. The dinner is $50, call 718-752-6000 for reservations.

  • Perilla (9 Jones St., at W. 4th St., West Village) continues their weekly Monday Night Beer Dinners starting tonight. For the month of July, they’ll feature the beers of Stillwater each Monday with a four-course tasting menu that includes Seared Diver Sea Scallops with the Cellar Door and Slow Braised Brisket with the Existent. Dinner is $60 and served all night long starting at 5:30pm; reservations are recommended.

July Good Beer Month is here!

This Sunday marks the first day of July, and that means it’s also the first day of Good Beer Month! Under proclamation of the mayor, the month will feature a bunch of events that celebrate craft beer in New York City. The month also puts the spotlight on the Good Beer Seal bars, including a passport for 23 beers or beer flights at 23 of the bars for just $30 through Thrillist Rewards. (Our friends at Beer Union are trying to conquer all 40 Good Beer Seal bars in a month.)

Among these can’t-miss events - some big, some small - are Cookout NYC on Governors Island and the annual Great Hot Dog Cookoff in Brooklyn. But that’s only scratching the surface. The whole lineup of events is still coming together, in fact, but here’s a rundown of some the best ones coming up in July:

Happy Hour: Thirsty Tuesday

It’s Tuesday, July 3rd. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Captain Lawrence Night at Bar Great Harry (280 Smith St., at Sackett St., Carroll Gardens). The beers will be on all day, but from 6-10pm, get discounts on brews like the Golden Delicious, Xtra Gold, and the new Brown Out Porter!

  • This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates New York State beers! $10 gets you six tastings of beers like Sixpoint Brownstone, Blue Point Sour Cherry Stout, and more! The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.

  • It’s also a New York Beer extravaganza at Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown), with beers from Sixpoint, Southern Tier, Ommegang and more on tap starting at 4pm.

  • Radegast Hall & Biergarten (113 N. 3rd St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) hosts a tasting of British beers from Meantime, including the London Lager and India Pale Ale. The flight of beers is $10, and you’ll also get to partake in some live music from Baby Soda Jazz Band.

Happy Hour: A Beer of the Apocalypse

It’s Monday, July 2nd. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) taps their weekly Very Special Keg tonight at 5pm! This week, they’re tapping the Elysian NIBIRU Yerba Mate Tripel, a Belgian-style Tripel with an infusion of Yerba Mate that’s a part of the brewery’s 12 Beers of the Apocalypse Series.

  • One Stop Beer Shop (134 Kingsland Ave., at Beadel St., Greenpoint) hosts a Dogfish Head tasting event tonight from 8-10pm. Enjoy some beer from this renowned Delaware brewery along with some food pairings, too!
