Your Beery Weekend: July 13-15

This picture came to us minutes ago from the folks at Alewife (5-14 51st Ave., at 5th St., Long Island City), who just got a delivery of casks for their weekend-long Cask Festival presented by Get Real. The festival kicks off tonight with a tasting session from 7-10pm, and runs through Sunday, where they’ll have a day-long kick-the-cask event. They’re got some great beer lined up (literally), including Three Heads Loopy, Mendocino Imperial Stout aged in Buffalo Trace barrels, Kuhnhenn Fluffer IPA, and many more! Tickets are available here… scroll to the bottom for some last-minute deals, including $25 tickets!

Fiat Lux is Brooklyn’s next Brewmaster’s Reserve Beer

As the supply of the Gold Standard Kellerbier dwindles this summer, Brooklyn Brewery is due for a new beer in their Brewmaster’s Reserve Series. That next beer will be Fiat Lux, a dry-hopped Belgian-style wheat beer that will be out starting in August.

The 6.1% ABV beer, which will be available on draft only, will include North American malts and winter wheat, several varieties of American hops, a Belgian yeast strain, and the addition of lime peel and coriander. A full description is below:

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, July 12th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Cigar City holds a pair of events on each side of the river tonight. In Brooklyn, Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg) kicks off their event at 7pm, with the Florida Cracker Ale, Peach IPA, White Oak, and more on tap! In Manhattan, One Mile House (10 Delancey St., at Bowery, Lower East Side) kicks off their event starting at 7pm, pouring the Cucumber Saison, Maduro Brown, the Dos Costas Oeste Lemon Wood collaboration with The Bruery, and more!

  • Standings (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) holds its Blue Point Bonanza tonight at 6pm. They’ll pour the Rastafa Rye, Blueberry Ale, the White IPA on cask, and more! Plus, free brats from Wechsler’s Currywurst served at 8pm!

  • The Thursday Tap at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) this week is Liefmans Cuvee Brut. Get there at 5pm and make it a very cherry Thursday!

  • If you like West Coast beers, Albert Hall Tavern (508 9th Ave., at 39th St., Hell’s Kitchen) is where to head tonight, as they’ll have six taps from Green Flash and five from Rogue starting at 5pm. It’s their “West Coast Invitational!”

First Look at Greenwood Park

It was a long wait, but one of the largest beer spots to open in Brooklyn this year has swung open its doors - or gates, if you will. Greenwood Park (555 7th Ave., at 19th St., South Slope) is not, by definition, a beer garden (it’s an old paved lot, so the only shade comes from umbrellas), but it certainly brings outdoor beer drinking to the next level, with a booming space, lots of seating, two bars, food, and a bocce court.

Happy Hour: Trivia Time

It’s Wednesday, July 11th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Brew York, New York presents our Brews & Clues Trivia Night tonight at 7:30pm at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg). Answer trivia questions (some are even about beer) and win beer while you enjoy some fine craft beers!

  • Lagunitas visits Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) today starting at 3pm. Enjoy the 2011 Gnarlywine, Farmhouse Gueuze, Bourbon Barrel-aged Cappuccino Stout, and a whole lot more all night long!

  • It’s the triumphant return of Barrier to The Double Windsor (210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace) tonight from 6-10pm. Enjoy eight different draft lines from the Long Island brewery, who recently moved into a newer, bigger facility!

  • Tonight at Brooklyn Brewery (79 N. 11th St., at Wythe Ave., Williamsburg), it’s beer, pickles, and pork. What else could you ask for? Enjoy beers from Brooklyn Brewery, local pickles courtesy of McClure’s, and a whole lot of pig. Tickets are $45 and the whole shindig gets underway at 7:30pm.

  • The “Meet Your Maker” Tasting Series wraps up at 61 Local (61 Bergen St., at Smith St., Carroll Gardens) this month with KelSo Beer, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Brooklyn Cured, Brooklyn Brine Co., and Phin & Phebes Ice Cream offering local beer and local eats. The makers of these products will be on hand, too! The full tasting is $45 and benefits the Brownsville Student Farm Project.

It’s Tuesday, July 10th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Green Flash Night at Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) today starting at 4pm. Enjoy a lineup of great West Coast brews on tap, including 30th Street Pale Ale, Lynchpin IPA, East Village Pilsner, Saison Diego, and more!

  • Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Stoudt’s tonight at Sunswick 35/35 (35-02 35th St., at 35th Ave., Astoria) starting at 7pm. Eddie and Jodi Stoudt will be on hand along with a whole bunch of great Pennsylvania beer on tap, including the New York debut of the 25th Anniversary Amber!

  • The New-York Historical Society Museum (170 Central Park West, at 77th Street, Upper West Side) will host a “Beer Appreciation Night” tonight at 6:30pm. a program and tasting that will feature Garrett Oliver and Steve Hindy from Brooklyn Brewery, and exhibit curators Debra Schmidt Bach and Nina Nazionale in a conversation moderated by Edible Manhattan editor Gabrielle Langholtz. The program will conclude with a special tasting of beers from Brooklyn. Tickets for the conversation and beer tasting are $49, or $37 for members.

  • As part of Bitter & Esters’ Brew Like a Pro Series, you’ll be able to taste the Greenport Harbor Project Hoppiness and Flying Dog Raging Bitch and  clones of these beers brewed at the Brooklyn homewbrew shop tonight at 7pm at Rye House (11 W. 17th St., at 5th Ave., Union Square).

  • This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates Italian beers! $10 gets you six tastings of beers, including Del Ducato Via Emilia, Birra Del Borgo Re Ale, and Baladin Nora. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.
