The Village is filled with bars that pour lots of beer, and most of it is of the swill variety that college students shove down their throats in large quantities. “You could sell ice-cold horse piss in that part of town and still pay rent,” a local beer bartender joked to us recently. He’s probably not far off. That’s why we’re surprised - and relieved - to see a place like The Malt House (206 Thompson St., at Bleecker St., Greenwich Village) open without the college-bar antics, macro beers, and chintzy atmosphere that comes with most bars in the area around NYU.
