Your Beery Weekend: September 28-30

The month of September is nearly over. But before it ends, we want to give away a pair of tickets to Brooklyn Pour. You, too, could be drinking beer in a giant bank vault at Skylight One Hanson next Saturday, October 6th.

Here’s how to win: Follow us on Twitter (@Brew_York) and tweet to us with a picture of your “Brooklyn Pour” - pouring a beer from any brewery that will be represented at the festival (there’s a whole list here). That’s right, we’re encouraging you to drink a beer.

Be sure to include the hashtag #BKPour and post it on Twitter by this Sunday at 11:59pm. The person who sends our favorite picture will win two tickets to the the Saturday afternoon session of the festival!

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, September 27th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Weyerbacher Night tonight at Barcade (388 Union Ave., at Ainslie St., Williamsburg) starting at 4pm. They’ll pour the Blithering Idiot, Barrel-aged Sixteen braggot, Imperial Pumpkin on cask, and much more!

  • Green Flash takes the taps at Coopers Craft & Kitchen (87 2nd Ave., at 5th St., East Village) with 6 lines starting at 6pm. Among them, the Friendship Brew black saison collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, 30th Street Pale Ale, Park West Porter, and more!

  • The Thursday Tap at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) this week is Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black, a black IPA from some clever New Zealand brewers! Get there at 5pm to try this rare beer, one of only 24 kegs in the nation!

  • Uncle Barry’s (58 5th Ave., at Bergen St., Park Slope) hosts their celebration of the release of Founders Breakfast Stout tonight at 8pm, and will pour Dirty Bastard and Red’s Rye PA along side it. They’ll have giveaways, too!

  • It’s Stone Night at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) tonight starting at 7pm. They’ll be pouring brews like the 2011 Double Bastard, 16th Anniversary IPA, a cask of Ruination IPA, and many more!

  • It’s a Biere de Garde Night at Dive 75 (101 W. 75th St., at Columbus Ave., Upper West Side). Starting at 7pm, they’ll pour beers like the Two Brothers Domaine DuPage, Brasserie Castelain Biere de Garde, and the collaboration between the two aforementioned breweries, Diversey & Lill(e).

  • Celebrate the return of Southern Tier Pumking tonight at Bronx Ale House (216 W. 238th St., at Broadway, Kingsbridge) starting at 7pm. Get in the fall spirit!

  • Woody McHale’s (234 W. 14th St., at 8th Ave., West Village) hosts a Lagunitas event tonight at 7:30pm, featuring the IPA and Lil Sumpin Wild on tap! They’ll also have glassware giveaways and nibbles of Buffalo-spiced slab bacon.

The Village Voice’s Second Annual Brooklyn Pour is just eight days away! It’s being held on Saturday, October 6th in two sessions at Skylight One Hanson in Fort Greene, and we’ve got two chances for you to win tickets.

Simply send an email with your name to brewyorknewyork(a)gmail.com with the subject line “Brooklyn Pour” by this Friday at 5pm and we’ll enter you into a random drawing to win a pair of tickets to the Saturday afternoon session of the festival.

Happy Hour: Victory is Yours!

It’s Wednesday, September 26th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village) hosts Victory today starting at 3pm, with a great lineup of beers from the Pennsylvania brewers, including the V12, Bavarian Polaris IPA, Mild Rye’d, a firkin of Storm King, and a whole lot of other surprises!

  • George Keeley (485 Amsterdam Ave., at 83rd St., Upper West Side) hosts Three Heads Brewing tonight starting at 6pm. Enjoy brews like the Common Man, Loopy Oatmeal Red, and The Kind IPA and meet the heads themselves!

  • Brooklyn Brewery and Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village) team up for the bar’s weekly $10 Bourbon and Beer Tasting Series. From 7-10pm, $10 gets you 2 full beers (Blast! and Fiat Lux), a 3-beer tasting flight, a taste of whisky, and an order of tater tots!

  • Dive Bar (732 Amsterdam Ave., at 96th St., Upper West Side) hosts Ballast Point tonight starting at 7pm, serving up six different taps from the San Diego-based brewers, including the ever-popular Sculpin IPA.

  • In the mood for something Belgian? Van Steenberge is at City Swiggers (320 E. 86th St., at 2nd Ave., Upper East Side) tonight starting at 6pm, offering tastes of the Gulden Draak, Gulden Draak 9000 Quad, Piraat, and Monk’s Cafe Sour.
  • The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) hosts their own Oktoberfest beer tasting tonight at 6pm, complete with food pairings. Enjoy Sweet Potato Croquettes with rosemary and goat cheese paired with Southern Tier Harvest, Bratwurst Sandwiches on pretzel rolls paired with Sly Fox Oktoberfest, and more!

Happy Hour: Beer was a good choice

It’s Tuesday, September 25th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A) hosts Cigar City tonight starting at 6:30pm, pouring beers like the Hotter Than Helles, Jean Ribault French Pale Ale, White Oak Jai Alai IPA, and a 2011 vintage of the Marshal Zukov’s Imperial Stout. They’ll also have discounts on pints and growlers all night long!

  • It’s San Diego Beer Night tonight at Valhalla (815 9th Ave., at 54th St., Hell’s Kitchen) starting at 6pm. Enjoy a lineup of draft beers from Ballast Point, Green Flash, Mission, Alesmith, and Stone! Stay classy.

  • This week’s free Tuesday Night Tasting at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) features beers from Birrificio Brùton. Iacopo Lenci, owner of this  Tuscan brewery, will be on hand to discuss his beers and the history of Italian beer while you sample his beers.

  • Event season is back at The Pony! It’s Sierra Nevada Night at The Pony Bar UES (1444 First Ave. at 75th St., Upper East Side) starting at 6pm. They’ll have a whopping 21 beers on tap from Chico, including the Floral IPA, 2010 Bigfoot Barleywine, Ovila Barrel-Aged Dubbel, and tons more!

  • Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) hosts Lakewood, New York’s Southern Tier today starting at 4pm, pouring beers like their Barrel-Aged Backburner, Creme Brulee, Pumking, and lots more beers big and small all night long.

  • Three Heads Brewing out of Rochester comes down to pay a visit to ABC Beer Co. (96 Avenue C, at 6th St., East Village) tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy brews like The Kind IPA and Loopy Oatmeal Red and meet the brewers, who might be the coolest beer guys you’ve never met.

  • Tavern 29 (47 E. 29th St., at Park Ave. So., Flatiron) hosts Bronx Brewery tonight from 6-9pm, pouring their Bronx Pale Ale on tap and from a cask, plus the new Rye Pale Ale.

  • This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates beers from the state of Maine. $10 gets you six tastings of beers, including Maine Beer Company MO, Maine Beer Company Mean Old Tom, and Allagash Confluence. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.

  • Radegast Hall (113 N. 3rd St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) hosts an Oktoberfest beer tasting tonight at 7:30pm. They’ll be pouring the Schneider Edel-Weisse, Ayinger Oktoberfest, Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest, and more, along with live music from the Grand Street Stompers!
