Saturday’s second annual Brooklyn Pour has wrapped up, and we were impressed with the improvements the organizers made compared to last year.
We were much happier with this year’s beer selection, food options, and the tasting glass, which was large enough to be able to pick up a beer’s aroma as well as its flavor. The layout featured our city’s local breweries front-and-center and utilized all of the venue’s space. And the program provided this year - which listed each brewery, its location, and what beers it was pouring - was especially helpful, and mostly precise given that beers weren’t finalized until the last minute.
Holy crap, you all are a thirsty bunch. This weekend’s Brooklyn Pour at Skylight One Hanson is officially sold out! Our two winners of last week’s contests - Emily and Andrew - will be there enjoying it, as will plenty of other eager beer drinkers.
But if you couldn’t score tickets, you should breathe a huge sigh of relief: there are so many beer events this weekend worth checking out! Finally, your procrastination pays off! Check out our rundown of this weekend’s beer events:
Beers from two new breweries are starting to hit shelves and tap lines in New York. Well, at least they’re new to New Yorkers. Meet Churchkey Can Co. and The Shed, two very different breweries with very different products from very different parts of the country.
Churchkey hails from Seattle, although the homebrewing duo that developed the recipe are from Portland, Oregon. The Shed’s beers are from Middlebury, Vermont, although the brand’s roots are an hour north in Stowe, Vermont. Churchkey has just one beer in its portfolio. The Shed has two, but once brewed many more. Perhaps the only thing these breweries have in common is that they’re going to share shelf space here in New York.
