Happy Hour: Come on feel the Illinoise

It’s Tuesday, November 27th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight

  • Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A) hosts Bear Republic tonight at 6:30pm. Try the Cafe Racer 15 Double IPA, Late Harvest Fest, Rebellion Mt. Hood single-hop IPA, and other hard-to-spot brews from this Northern California brewery.

  • Colicchio & Sons (85 Tenth Ave., at 15th St., Meatpacking District) celebrates the release of their new collaboration beer with Empire Brewing. It’s called Shift Drink, and it’ll be on tap at the bar along with some snacks from 10pm-Midnight. They’re also accepting donations to the Red Cross as part of the event.

  • This week’s Ten Buck Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates dark liquids. $10 gets you six tastings of liquids like i Farnum Hill Kingston Black cider, Maine Beer Company King Titus, and St. Bernardus Abbot 12. The tasting gets underway at 7:30pm.

  • The subject of this week’s free Tuesday Tasting at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) is Illinois’ Two Brothers Brewing Company. Join Two Brothers brand manager Billy Denniston as he takes you through a tasting of their delicious portfolio. The tasting starts at 7pm.

  • Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) hosts another brewery from Illinois, Goose Island, all night long, starting at 4pm today. They’ll pour over a dozen brews, including the Mild Winter, Madame Rose, Bourbon County Stout, and many more.

Alewife to host Stone Vertical Epic Tasting on 12.12.12

For the last ten years, California’s Stone Brewing Co. has been producing a Belgian-influenced beer annually as part of their Vertical Epic Series. Each beer, released on 5/5/05, 6/6/06, 7/7/07, and so on, was designed to be aged in anticipation of a “Vertical Epic” tasting on December 12th, 2012, or 12.12.12. Well, 12.12.12 is almost here, and Alewife (5-14 51st Ave., at 5th St., Long Island City) will be the only place in New York where you’ll be able to try ten of the Vertical Epic beers in one room. Why fly all the way to Escondido?

Happy Hour: Enjoy Enjoy By

It’s Monday, November 26th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • The Stone Enjoy By 12.21.12 is out and flowing in New York! This afternoon at 3pm, Fourth Avenue Pub (76 4th Ave., at Bergen St., Boerum Hill) will tap their keg of the fresh hop brew that was kegged in San Diego barely a week ago!

  • It’s VSK (Very Special Keg) Monday at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village). At 5pm, they’ll tap a rare or unique keg of the bar’s choosing. This week, it’s the Maine Beer Company MO, a well-balanced pale ale from this small brewery in Portland, Maine.

  • Looking for one last pumpkin beer? Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) will tap the last keg of Sixpoint Autumnation in the city tonight at 5pm. Enjoy some beer, along with free Greenmarket pretzels!

Singlecut’s taproom opening set for December 8th

We’ve been teasing you for a while about the forthcoming Singlecut Beersmiths (19-33 37th St., at 20th Ave., Astoria), set to become Queens’ newest and largest brewery. The permits are finally coming through after a delay due to Hurricane Sandy, and the brewery will swing open its doors in December.
