Happy Hour: Seductive Beer

It’s Monday, December 3rd. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s VSK (Very Special Keg) Monday at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village). At 5pm, they’ll tap a rare or unique keg of the bar’s choosing. This week, it’s the Ommegang Seduction, a Belgian beer with rich aromas and flavors of chocolate and cherries.

  • Avery takes over the taps at Sunswick 35/35 (35-02 35th St., at 35th Ave., Astoria) today at 7pm. Enjoy beers like the duganA Double IPA, Ellie’s Brown, Old Jubilation, and more!

  • ReBar (147 Front St., at Jay St., DUMBO), holds their monthly “Kick the Keg” event today and tomorrow, getting rid of November’s beer lineup so they can get December’s beers on! $3 will get you pours of some great craft beers until the kegs kick!

  • Beer Table Pantry (Grand Central Terminal, Graybar Passage, Midtown) hosts Kelly Taylor of KelSo beer fame tonight from 5-7pm. Before you catch the train, meet the brewer as he pours samples of his Winter Lager!

Your Beery Weekend: November 30-December 2

There is simply too much going on this weekend! Seriously, nobody can be in multiple places at once, but if you like beer, you’d probably wish you could with this weekend’s lineup of beer events. Among them is the return of the NYC Craft Beer Festival Winter Harvest at Pier 36 Basketball City (299 South St., at Montgomery St., Lower East Side), which Hurricane Sandy kind of threw for a loop. Not only did it have to be postponed, but also moved across town. The good news is, the beer all made it, and the lineup is good. Tickets are still available online - buy in advance now to save a cool ten bucks.

But why just go to a festival with dozens of different breweries represented? Check out an entire weekend’s worth of craft beer events below.

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, November 29th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Tonight from 4pm on at Barcade (388 Union Ave., at Ainslie St., Williamsburg), Founders puts on a massive lineup of amazing beers. In addition to a great list of beers that’ll be on all night (or as long as they last), the bar will put on one beer from their rare Backstage Series each hour from 4 to 8pm.   • It’s a Night of Pumpkin Ales at Standings (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) tonight starting at 6pm. Enjoy the Southern Tier Pumking, Carton Imperial Pumpkin Cream Ale, Stoudt’s Pumpkinfest Lager, and they’ll bring out free pizza and pumpkin pie at 8pm!

  • Weyerbacher Night at The Gate (321 5th Ave., at 3rd St., Park Slope) starts at 7pm. They’ll pour the Merry Monks to kick off the holiday season, along with a 2006 vintage Blithering Idiot barleywine, 2007 Old Heathen Imperial Stout, and the 16th Anniversary Braggot, plus lots more!

  • Hill Farmstead comes to the Heights tonight! Get your hands on Jackie O’s Autumn Saison, a naturally-carbonated saison brewed with organic pumpkins at the tiny Vermont brewery, tonight at Buddha Beer Bar (4497 Broadway, at 192nd St., Washington Heights). They’ll tap the beer at 7pm.

  • Feeling a little Canadian? Head to Bronx Ale House (216 W. 238th St., at Broadway, Kingsbridge) as they host Unibroue starting at 7pm. They’ll have the Maudite, La Fin du Monde, Ephemere, and more of their unique Quebecois beers on tap!

  • Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg) hosts a Cider and Cheese Pairing tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy some of Spain’s finest ciders and sample some delicious cheese, too!

  • It’s Ballast Point Night at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) tonight starting at 7pm. They’ll have a great lineup of beers including the Big Eye IPA, Sculpin, Calico Amber, and some rarities, too!

  • The Thursday Tap at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) this week is the Stillwater Folklore. Get there at 5pm and try this rare keg of this Belgian Strong Dark Ale from the famed Gypsy Brewer Brian Strumke!

Founders visits New York this week

The venerable Founders Brewing is hitting the town Thursday and Friday in New York. Owner Mike Stevens is coming and bringing a boatload of good beer to celebrate the brewery’s 15th anniversary with the New York beer community. If you’re a fan of their big beers, their classic IPA and Pale Ale, or rarities, these are two events are not worth missing.

Happy Hour: Very Special Night

It’s Wednesday, November 28th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) hosts its annual VSK (Very Special Keg) Event today starting at 3pm and running all night long, until the kegs are kicked. Among the beers they’re pouring: Founders Bolt Cutter, the brewery’s 15th anniversary barleywine, the rare Cantillion Fou Foune, and the Captain Lawrence Pilot Batch Chico de Leche.   • One Mile House (10 Delancey St., at Bowery, Lower East Side) celebrates its First Anniversary today! Starting at 3pm and running all night long, they’ll pour some of their favorite beers and some rarities, like a 2008 vintage Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, Allagash Fluxus, Ballast Point Sculpin, Founders Backwoods Bastard, and many more!

  • The Double Windsor (210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace) hosts a benefit for the Added Value Farm in Red Hook, which was submerged in Hurricane Sandy. From 5pm to close, a $10 donation gets you a free pour of your choice of Barrier Saazsquash!, Captain Lawrence Golden Delicious, or Sixpoint Gorilla Warfare.

  • Garrett Oliver and the gang from Brooklyn Brewery head to Dive Bar (732 Amsterdam Ave., at 96th St., Upper West Side) for a tap takeover tonight starting at 7pm. They’re breaking out some goodies for the occasion, including There Will Be Black, Mary’s Maple Porter, Monster Ale, and many, many more, along with complimentary cheese!

  • Five Lamps Tavern (2756 Broadway, at 106th St., Upper West Side) hosts their very first tap takeover with Green Flash tonight at 8pm. Enjoy the famous West Coast IPA, Friendship Brew, and more!

  • Also on the Upper West Side, it’s Troegs Night at George Keeley (485 Amsterdam Ave., at 83rd St., Upper West Side) starting at 6pm. Enjoy your first sip of this year’s Mad Elf, plus some other favorites from the Hershey, PA brewery!

  • Avery takes over the taps at Sunswick 35/35 (35-02 35th St., at 35th Ave., Astoria) tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy some brews from Colorado like The Kaiser Imperial Marzen, duganA Double IPA, Ellie’s Brown, and more!

  • Head to Staten Island for some Kelso beers at Full Cup (388 Van Duzer St., at Beach St., Stapleton). The Richmond County Brew Club hosts the brewery from over the bridge, with beers like Nut Brown Lager, IPA, and Winter Lager.
