Alewife (5-14 51st Ave., at 5th St., Long Island City) is having a rough go of things lately. First, Hurricane Sandy caused extensive damage to the bar. Now, the MTA is giving Sandy a run for its money: the 7 Train, which connects Long Island City to Manhattan and stops a block away from the bar, is shut down for 13 consecutive weekends through the spring. Needless to say, this is not good for business.
So we’re asking you, as fellow craft beer drinkers, to support a craft beer bar that’s been dealt this double-whammy. Visit Alewife on a weeknight (or tonight, even - the 7 doesn’t stop running until 11:45pm). Better yet, go this weekend by making the walk from the G Train at 21st-Van Alst or taking the free shuttle bus to Vernon Boulevard from Queensboro Plaza on the N/Q or Court Square on the E/G. These guys are doing good things for craft beer, so it’s best that we return the favor.
Meanwhile, here’s the lineup of craft beer events this weekend. Happy drinking!
