Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, February 7th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Colorado Beer Night at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg) tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy beers from the Centennial State like the Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti and the Breckenridge Pandora’s Bock.

  • Enjoy Foie Gras, Fries, and beers from Goose Island tonight at Bronx Ale House (216 W. 238th St., at Broadway, Kingsbridge). Starting at 7pm, chow down on some rich foods and richer beers like the Bourbon County Coffee Stout, Minx, and Naughty Goose.

  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) hosts a Harpoon Tap Takeover tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy some old favorites from the Boston-based brewery, plus beers from their 100 Barrel Series.

  • The Thursday Tap at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) is the Thornbridge Kipling, a 5.2% ABV South Pacific-Style Pale Ale. Get there at 5pm to try it!

  • Brouwerij Lane (78 Greenpoint Ave., at Franklin St., Greenpoint) gets funky with French Disco Night tonight from 7-10pm. Jim Barnes spins some French Disco while you enjoy some French craft beers from Castelain, Page 24, Mont Blanc, and more!

  • We don’t show much love to Eastern Queens, so here you go: Brooklyn Brewery hosts a guided tasting of the East India Pale Ale tonight from 7-9pm at Uno Chicago Grill (39-02 Bell Blvd., at 39th Ave., Bayside). Get to know this classic beer better!

  • Join Widmer Brothers for a free tasting tonight at Malt & Mold (221 East Broadway, at Clinton St., Lower East Side) from 5-8pm.They’ll be pouring the Columbia Common, O’Ryely IPA, Chocolate Russian Imperial Stout ’13, and lots more, along with free cheese and crackers!

  • Celebrate Mardi Gras early with a free Abita tasting at Mudville 9 (126 Chambers St., at W. Broadway, Tribeca) tonight starting at 7pm. Enjoy brews like the Turbodog, Save Our Shore, and Mardi Gras Bock.

New Brews: Peekskill Brewery heads south for the city

Jeff O'Neill has been doing amazing things up at Peekskill Brewery lately. He’s working in a new, massive four-story building that just opened just last month down the street from the original location. On top of that, he’s well on his way to making wild ales out of the coolship on the upper level of the building. And, he’s starting to brew enough beer to send some to places beyond the brewpub’s walls. The first kegs have already arrived in Manhattan, and the first of Chief’s (that’s what they call him) beers to pour in the five boroughs is on tap now.

Bronx Brewery signs lease on brewery space in The Bronx

When The Bronx Brewery launched its first beer in 2011, a few purists were quick to lash out about how their beer wasn’t made in The Bronx. At the time, we said:

The [Bronx Brewery’s] goal, of course, is to develop a following, promote the brand, gain some capital, and open a full-scale production brewery in the borough within the next couple of years.

Lo and behold, the goal has been accomplished: the brewery signed a lease in late January on a new space in the Port Morris section of the Bronx, and according to the brewery team, by the end of this year, the building pictured above will be churning out their beer.

Happy Hour: You Never Saw This List

It’s Wednesday, February 6th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Our monthly Clues & Brews Trivia Night is tonight at 7:30pm at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg). Enjoy some craft beer, answer some trivia questions, and win more beer! Winners of each trivia round get beer on the house… and there’s lots of great beer on tap to choose from, like the Allagash Yakuza, Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, Three Heads The Kind IPA, and more!

  • Shh! This event doesn’t exist! Downtown Bar & Grill (160 Court St., at Dean St., Cobble Hill) taps a cask of Brooklyn Black Ops tonight at 6pm. They’ll also be pouring There Will Be Black and the 2010 vintage of the Black Chocolate Stout!

  • Enjoy a flight of Breckenridge beers until 10pm tonight at Sycamore (1118 Cortelyou Rd., at Westminster Rd., Ditmas Park). They’ll be offering an $8 four-beer flight from the Colorado brewery, including some of their lesser-known brews.

  • Celebrate Mardi Gras at The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) as they host Abita tonight at 6pm. They’ll pouring Andygator, Vanilla Double Dog, Oyster Stout, and more on tap, plus free snacks at 6pm!

  • Some New York Breweries, Evan Williams, and Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village) team up for the bar’s weekly $10 Bourbon and Beer Tasting Series. Tonight from 7-10pm, $10 gets you beers from Captain Lawrence, Ithaca, and Butternuts, in a 3-beer tasting flight, a taste of whisky, and an order of tater tots!

  • It’s Belgian Beer Night at at George Keeley (485 Amsterdam Ave., at 83rd St., Upper West Side) tonight starting at 6pm. Enjoy beers from Petrus, Monk’s Cafe, Piraat, and more all night long. Get your Belgian on!

Happy Hour: Get Your Stout On

It’s Tuesday, February 5th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • One Mile House (10 Delancey St., at Bowery, Lower East Side) hosts their First Annual Stout Fest starting tonight at 6pm. They’ll pour beers like the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Great Divide Espresso Oak-Aged Yeti, The Perfect Crime Smoking Gun, and a whole lot more, along with food pairings all night long!

  • This week’s Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) celebrates beers from Allagash! $20 gets you six tastings of brews from the Maine brewery like Grand Cru, Yakuza, Fluxus, and more! Things get underway at 7:30pm.

  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) hosts a free Tuesday Tasting of beers from English brewers Wells and Young’s tonight at 7pm. Join Billy Morrissey of Belukus Marketing on this journey through some brews from across the pond.

  • Radegast Hall & Biergarten (113 N. 3rd St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) features Distilled Beers in their Tuesday Tasting tonight at 7pm. Enjoy beers like Schneider Aventinus, Reissdorf Kolsch, and Schlenkerla Marzen, along with the spirits distilled by these same brewers!

  • Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) hosts Laughing Dog today starting at 4pm. They’ll have a lineup of beers from the Idaho-based brewery on tap all night long!
