State of the New York City Beer Scene: A Roundtable

image

What better way to get in the spirit of NYC Beer Week 2013 (kicking off tomorrow) than with a craft beer roundtable made up of some of the foremost thinkers, proprietors and doers within the New York City craft beer scene?

The participants were gracious enough to share their thoughts on a wide range of topics pertaining to what’s going on in the NYC craft beer scene this very moment. If you don’t already do so, you should be frequenting their establishments and reading their work.

The roundtable was developed and moderated by Larry Koestler, a fellow beer geek and longtime friend of ours. You can follow Larry on Twitter @Larry_Koestler, read what he has to say about beer at his website, friend him on Untappd, circle him on Google+ and connect with him on Instagram.

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, February 21st. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s NYC Beer Week Eve! Get an early start at Barcade (388 Union Ave., at Ainslie St., Williamsburg) today starting at 4pm and running until the kegs kick! They’ll be breaking out the good stuff for this event, including a 2011 Allagash Odyssey, 2010 Brooklyn Dark Matter, 2009 Dogfish Head Immort Ale, and a beer from Speakeasy made especially for NYC Beer Week, the Black and White Cookie Ale.

  • Sixpoint celebrates their eighth anniversary with a tap takeover at Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) starting at 7pm. They’ll pour well-known perennial offerings (Sweet Action, Bengali Tiger), special draft-only releases (like their Mad Scientist series), and the new release 3Beans!

  • The Thursday Tap at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) is the Local Option Dampf Loc, an all-barley steam beer weighing in at a sessionable 5.3% ABV. Get there at 5pm to try it!

  • Join Speakeasy for a free tasting tonight at Malt & Mold (221 East Broadway, at Clinton St., Lower East Side) from 5-8pm. Sample beers like the Prohibition Ale, the Witness, and the Black and White Cookie Ale, plus enjoy some free cheese samples, too!

  • Stinky Bklyn (261 Smith St., at Baltic St., Cobble Hill) hosts a tasting with KelSo tonight from 4-6pm, with a beer and cheese pairing that features their new Rauchbier. Plus, they’ll offer 10% off all growler fills!

Follow us on Twitter and Instagram for ongoing updates, like us on Facebook to spread the word, and check us out on Foursquare for great lists of beer bars, stores, and breweries.
