Happy Hour: Meet the Kiwis

It’s Wednesday, June 19th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Spuyten Duyvil (350 Metropolitan Ave., at Havermeyer St., Williamsburg) hosts the New York debut of New Zealand’s Renaissance Brewing, pouring their Elemental Porter, Stonecutter Scotch Ale, M.P.A. Double IPA, and more starting at 5pm. Brewer Brian Thiel will be on hand as well!

  • Third Avenue Ale House (1644 Third Ave., at 92nd St., Upper East Side) hosts Troegs tonight at 7pm. They’ll serve up the Flying Mouflan Barleywine, Naked Elf, the Triple Mango IPA, and more!

  • Be the first to get your hands on the Stone RuinTen IPA at George Keeley (485 Amsterdam Ave., at 83rd St., Upper West Side) tonight at 6pm. They’ll also have a lineup of other Stone brews like the Oaked Arrogant Bastard and 2013 Imperial Russian Stout.

  • Get a taste of Long Island with Greenport Harbor tonight at City Swiggers (320 E. 86th St., at 2nd Ave., Upper East Side). From 6-9pm, try the Summer Ale, Otherside IPA, and more goodies from the North Fork.

  • Sycamore (1118 Cortelyou Rd., at Westminster Rd., Ditmas Park) hosts Carton tonight at 7pm, pouring the Boat Beer, BDG, 077XX, and Carton of Milk, along with offering up flights for those who can’t commit to just one beer.

  • Sierra Nevada and Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village), team up for the bar’s weekly $10 Bourbon and Beer Tasting Series. Taste the Torpedo, the Summerfest, and more beer from California.

  • Beer Authority (300 W. 40th St., at 8th Ave., Hell’s Kitchen) hosts their Smuttynose Tap Takeover today at 4pm. Enjoy a lineup of good beers from New Hampshire.

Happy Hour: To Mahr’s and Back

It’s Tuesday, June 18th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) hosts Maine's Allagash starting at 4pm. Enjoy ten of their beers on tap, including the Bourbon Black, Curieux, Odyssey, Victoria, and more!

  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) features Avery tonight at 7pm for their free Tuesday Tasting. Enjoy some free tastes of five beers with your host, the lovely Jen Dickey.

  • It’s a Sixpoint Tasting Party at Brooklyn Dining Room (56 Willoughby St., at Lawrence St., Downtown Brooklyn) at 7pm tonight. Get $2 half pints of Sixpoint’s finest brews, plus give their new sliders a try!

  • This week’s Tuesday Tasting at Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) features the beers of German brewer Mahr’s Brau. $20 gets you a selection of six beers, including the Ungespundet, Saphir Weisse, and Ginger Bock. Things get underway at 7:30pm.

  • KelSo hosts a four-course beer dinner tonight at 7pm at Dean Street (755 Dean St., at Underhill Ave., Prospect Heights). Enjoy courses like the Pils paired with poached shrimp marinated with Thai chili, basil, and lime, and the Pale Ale paired with crispy soft-shell crab, avocado, and ham hock butter. Dinner is $60 including tax and gratuity.

Happy Hour: SAVOR Recovery Edition

It’s Monday, June 17th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Welcome Switzerland’s Brasserie Trois Dames to New York tonight at 6:30pm at Proletariat (102 St. Marks Pl., at 1st Ave., East Village). Owner and brewer Raphaël Mettler leads a guided tasting of his beers, including the La Semeuse Espresso Stout and Fraicheur du Soir au Basilic, a double Witbier with basil. Beers will be available at 5pm, and the guided tasting ($30) starts at 6:30pm. Get there early!

  • It’s a Brooklyn CANibalization at Lavender Lake (383 Carroll St., at Bond St., Gowanus). Starting tonight at 7pm, celebrate Brooklyn’s lineup of canned beers - the Summer Ale, East India Pale Ale, and Lager - for cheap prices and get cool summertime giveaways from the brewery.

  • It’s VSK (Very Special Keg) Monday at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village). At 5pm, they’ll tap a rare or unique keg of the bar’s choosing. This week, it’s the Midnight Sun Meltdown Double IPA, a hard-to-find citrusy gem from Alaska.

  • Beer Table Pantry (Grand Central Terminal, Graybar Passage, Midtown) hosts a free sampling of beer from Greenport Harbor tonight from 5-7pm. Stop in on your way to the train and taste the Canard Noir and Otherside IPA then get yourself a growler (or their new pint-to-go!) to take home.

  • Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) hosts a “Piggylicious” six-course dinner tonight at 7pm, with Guest Chef Derrick Prince featuring unusual cuts from Flying Pigs Farm paired with beers from Belgium’s Brasserie de Silly. SAVOR is over. Now what? This summer’s big beer events

Most of the American brewers have left New York City after a deliciously exhausting week of events around SAVOR, the Brewers Assocation’s beer-and-food pairing festival. So now what?

Summer, that’s what! Summer is the perfect time for beer, sunshine, and celebrating. So perhaps we can interest you in another beer festival or two, or the christening of a brand-new New York brewery. There’s much imbibing to come. Heck, summer hasn’t`even officially started yet. So let’s dive in, chronologically!
