The Beer Weekender: July 19-21

image

It’s hot. Like, unbearably hot. Like, so hot that you almost want to drink a beer with blue mountains on the label (okay, fine, let’s not get crazy). The good news is that this weekend’s big beer event, NYC Craft Beer Festival - Summer Jazz at Webster Hall (125 E. 11th St., at 3rd Ave., East Village), is entirely indoors in air-conditioned comfort. And to help you cool off even more, there will be over 150 different beers being poured, including the Lager from forthcoming brewer Queens Brewery, which we’ll tell you more about next week.

Here’s our full rundown of beer events this weekend. Stay cool!

Under Construction: Beer Spots to Watch For

image
The bar is complete a forthcoming Upper East Side beer joint The Jeffrey (photo via Twitter)

You might not believe it, especially with the opening of Tørst (615 Manhattan Ave., at Nassau Ave., Greenpoint) back in March, but it’s been a bit of a quiet year for beer bar openings in New York. A lot of the new spots this year have opened in neighborhoods previously unserved by craft beer bars and haven’t gotten quite the attention that a place opening in Manhattan would.

The good news is, that’s bound to change by the end of the year. Here’s some places to keep an eye on that should all be open by year’s end - if not sooner.

Before IPA Day, join us for an IPA Fast

image

IPA Day is back for another year on August 1st. Across the country, beer drinkers will be hoisting a glass of an IPA to celebrate a style almost ubiquitous at American craft beer bars and stores.
