This Saturday, crawl between Greenpoint and LIC with Sixpoint

Living in Greenpoint and Long Island City has sucked on weekends recently, on account of G Train reconstruction that’s shut it down for 12 weekends this year. To get between the neighborhoods on weekends, you either have to take a shuttle bus or walk. This Saturday, August 10th, Sixpoint and Get Real Presents are offering another option: crawl… with some beer for encouragement.

Happy Hour: Trivia and Flying Dog, together at last

It’s Wednesday, August 7th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Our monthly Clues & Brews Trivia Night teams up with Flying Dog tonight at 7:30pm at Breukelen Bier Merchants (182 Grand St., at Driggs Ave., Williamsburg). Join Chris and Molly for trivia and great brews from Flying Dog’s Brewhouse Rarities! The winners at the end of the night take home a gift card.

  • The Stag’s Head (252 E. 51st St., at 2nd Ave., Turtle Bay) hosts the beers of New Jersey’s Carton tonight. Augie will be in the house as they pour the Carton of Milk, Red Rye Returning, Monkey Chased the Weasel, Digger, and more, along with free snacks at 6pm.

  • It’s a Tropical Party at Dive 75 (101 W. 75th St., at Columbus Ave., Upper West Side) tonight at 8pm! Enjoy the brand-new Founders Mango Magnifico con Calor while listening to a tropical soundtrack of Caribbean tunes curated by Founders’ man about town, Tim Traynor.

  • Idle Hands Bar (25 Avenue B, at 2nd St., East Village) goes Can Crazy with their Summer of Cans Part 3: Return of the Can Party tonight from 6-10pm. Enjoy $4 craft beer cans, like Sixpoint Apollo, Narragansett Summer Ale, and lots more… for pay $25 in advance for all-you-can-drink cans till 10pm (it’s $30 at the door).

  • City Swiggers (320 E. 86th St., at 2nd Ave., Upper East Side) hosts a cider tasting with Rowan Imports tonight from 6-9pm. Swing by to try ciders from Spain’s Sidra and New York’s own Slyboro.

First Look at Upright Brew House

You’d be wise to think that with a name like Upright Brew House (547 Hudson St., at Perry St., West Village), the storefront must be either a coffee shop or a beer bar. Well, this West Village spot manages to do both in their small space - and food, for that matter. Upright got an early start back in March as a coffee shop while it waited for its beer and wine license, and now that the license is in, the craft beer is flowing, and the neighborhood has already discovered what might be the best-kept craft beer secret west of 7th Avenue.

Happy Hour: The Bruery gets smoked

It’s Tuesday, August 6th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • John Brown Smokehouse (10-43 44th Dr., at 11th St., Long Island City) hosts a tap takeover from The Bruery tonight at 7pm. Enjoy five brews from the Southern California brewery, each paired with the restaurant’s famous barbeque.

  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) features Session IPAs tonight at 7pm for their free Tuesday Tasting. Join the Bierkraft staff in a guided tasting of some easy-drinking hoppy brews… get there early for a seat!

  • Station House Forest Hills (106-11 71st Ave., at Austin St., Forest Hills) hosts Sixpoint tonight at 6pm. They’ll be bringing some old favorites and something special, including the brand-spankin’ new Mad Scientists #15 BelJam.

  • Radegast Hall & Biergarten (113 N. 3rd St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) hosts a “Sweet Summertime” tasting of beers tonight at 7pm, including the Kasteel Rouge, Mort Subite Witte, and St. Louis Framboise. You can enjoy them in a flight or by the glass, and you’ll also get to partake in some live music from the Scrub Board Serenaders.

  • Bar Catalonia (206 W. 41st St., at 7th Ave., Midtown) hosts their first in a series of Sixpoint Live Sessions, featuring local musicians and their beer. The Markham Group, a jazz ensemble, will perform as you enjoy a complimentary beer tasting from 6-8pm.

Happy Hour: Tropical Drink Melting in Your Hand

It’s Monday, August 5th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s Dogfish Head Night tonight starting at 5pm at Brickyard Gastropub (785 9th Ave., at 52nd St., Hell’s Kitchen). Enjoy beers like Sixty-One, Black and Blue, FireFly Pale Ale, and more on tap all night long!

  • Beer Table Pantry (Grand Central Terminal, Graybar Passage, Midtown) hosts a free tasting of beer from Long Island’s Spider Bite tonight from 5-7pm. Stop in on your way to the train for a tasting of beer, and take a growler (or pint-to-go) home.

  • It’s VSK (Very Special Keg) Monday at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village). At 5pm, they’ll tap a rare or unique keg of the bar’s choosing. This week, it’s the Cigar  City/De Proef Tropical Tripel, a collaboration Belgian Ale aged on Oak Chips with Coconut and Peaches.
