21 New York City Bars Added to Good Beer Seal Program

In a ceremony last week in Williamsburg, the Good Beer Seal announced 23 new bars as inductees – including 21 in New York City. These bars will now proudly display the Good Beer Seal, which certifies bars that don’t just merely offer craft beer, but celebrate it. In addition to adding 21 bars in the five boroughs, two bars outside of the city – in Chicago and Vestal in Upstate New York – that were also worthy of the seal.

Mugs Alehouse to close its doors in June (and a tribute)

Mugs Alehouse, a 27-year mainstay of New York’s craft beer scene, will close its doors for good this month, with its last day in business slated for Saturday, June 22nd. Saying the bar had “run its course,” owner Ed Berestecki held the closing over from the beginning of the month to allow longtime patrons to say their proper goodbyes. So I, personally, would like to say a proper goodbye as well.
