New York City’s newest brewery has opened its doors in Williamsburg, and it’s a boon to beer-drinking concert-goers at Brooklyn Steel. 18th Ward Brewing Co. has opened directly across the street from the concert venue, pouring house-made brews, serving up sausages and sandwiches, and offering fun and games to pair with the beer and food.
Beer Advocate’s IPA Fest: Brooklyn is this Saturday! It’s been a while since the folks from BA put on a good ol’ beer festival in New York City (since 2016, to be exact). The beer publishers have been known for a string of lauded annual beer fests in Boston and around the country. This year, they’re taking their successful IPA Fest on the road to Brooklyn, serving copious amounts of hoppy beer at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint this Saturday, September 14th, and limited tickets are still available.
IPA Fest is, as the name suggests, a celebration of all things hoppy. Brewers from across the country will show off their hop-forward beers at the event, which will feature a total of 55 breweries and nearly 200 different beers. The annual fall celebration of New York City beer put on by the NYC Brewers Guild, Blocktoberfest, returns to The Well on Saturday, September 28th starting at 1pm. The festival – now in its sixth year – features beers from over two dozen breweries across the five boroughs, including Finback, Fifth Hammer, Other Half, Transmitter, and more, all based in New York City. Breweries will be bringing their A-game, with some rolling out some special brews for the occasion.

In August, six New York City-area breweries shipped off to London to pour at the city’s marquee craft beer festival and brew six collaboration beers with six London breweries. They’re calling it The Skyline Project, and it’s a first-of-its-kind Transatlantic collaboration that releases in September in the UK.

Long Island’s Blue Point Brewing Company is in the process of building out an experimental, subterranean brewpub in Brooklyn. The spot, under Seamore’s Restaurant on Water Street in DUMBO, is called The Hull, and will feature an on-site brewhouse, food from the adjoining restaurant, and a nautical-themed tasting room in the basement space.
Sixpoint Brewery announced plans for a 20,000-square foot brewery and taproom in Gowanus, Brooklyn today, their first significant expansion in the city in their fifteen-year history. The space, which will be at the intersection of 9th Street and 2nd Avenue in the shadow of the MTA’s Culver Viaduct that carries the F and G Train from Carroll Gardens into Park Slope. The space is planned to open in Spring 2020.
