The Beer Weekender: August 23-25

image

The Dog Days of Summer are truly upon us. One of the events we were planning to list this weekend was the New York City Brewers Guild Block Party fundraiser at The Well (272 Meserole St., at Waterbury St., East Williamsburg). Unfortunately, the Guild didn’t have enough advance ticket sales to cover the cost of the event. Bummer, indeed, especially considering all those delicious beers that we were smacking our lips over. We blame the slow ticket sales on the general laziness of these Dog Days, but we’re a little disappointed, New York!

The good news is there’s going to be another attempt at a fundraiser this fall. Details are forthcoming, but expect a good event with great beers. The Brewers Guild is doing great things for the city’s small brewers, and with New York City Beer Week set for another go-around next February, they’ll need your support.

Still looking for something to do? Here’s our rundown of this weekend’s beer events:

The Beer Crawl: Park Slope

image

New York City is full of unique neighborhoods, each with their own local spots that serve great craft beer. Occasionally, we’ll profile a few spots in each neighborhood - all within walking distance of each other - that you can explore in one trip.

Previously: The Beer Crawl: Greenpoint, The Beer Crawl: Upper East Side

Today, we explore a neighborhood that many New York beer drinkers may already been very familiar with: Brooklyn’s Park Slope. It’s a hotbed of craft beer, with copious amounts of craft beer flowing from the tap lines at neighborhood staples and newcomer bars that help keep the area known for something other than just strollers and overbearing parents. In case you’re new to the city, just visiting, or the type who scoffs at the thought of going to Park Slope, this crawl is for you. Start your crawl at the Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center subway station, accessible from the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, N, Q, and R trains.
