Ah, mid-September. Crisp, cool air, fall leaves, and OH MY GOD THE RAREST BEER ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. Okay, not really. But the way people talk about the annually-released Cantillon Zwanze, you’d wonder. After all, they stopped bottling the beer altogether in 2011. The year before, the beer was on the black market, being sold on eBay for well above its retail price. That didn’t sit well with brewer Jean Van Roy, so he created Zwanze Day, a single day each year where the beer, now on draft only, is released at the same time at bars around the world. This year, that time is Saturday at 3pm Eastern Time. Two bars in New York have the pleasure of serving it, but you’re going to have to get there early to enjoy it.
Details on Zwanze Day celebrations, and the rest of this weekend’s beer events, are below…
We love the experience of drinking fresh beer off the tap at a bar, but sometimes, you just want to take home a growler or six-pack, plop yourself in front of a TV, and drink a beer in peace. Thankfully, three new beer shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan have made that easier to do than ever before.
