  • Elysian continues three days of New York City events as a spinoff to their famous Pumpkin Patch beer festival… it’s The Pumpkin Patch NYC Tour. Tonight, they’ll have a bar craws that features their series of Pumpkin Beers at every location across Lower Manhattan: Coopers Craft & Kitchen (87 2nd Ave., at 5th St., East Village), Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village), ABC Beer Co. (96 Avenue C, at 6th St., East Village)Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A), and Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., Greenwich Village).

  • Get Stoned tonight at The Double Windsor (210 Prospect Park West, at 16th St., Windsor Terrace). Stone will be in the house starting at 6pm pouring the Stone/10 Barrel/Bluejacket Suede Imperial Porter, Enjoy By 11.12.13, Sublimely Self-Righteous, and more - all for $5 a pour!

  • Peak Organic stops by City Swiggers (320 E. 86th St., at 2nd Ave., Upper East Side) tonight from 6-9pm. They’ll serve up free tastes of the Hop Blanc Belgian White IPA, Maple Oat, Fresh Cut Pilsner, and more.

  • It’s Founders Night tonight at Puck Fair (298 Lafayette St., at Houston St., Soho) at 6pm. Grab a Breakfast Stout, Dirty Bastard, or Centennial IPA on tap, and take home a glass, too!

  • Beer Authority (300 W. 40th St., at 8th Ave., Hell’s Kitchen) takes over the taps at Ballast Point tonight starting at 5pm. Enjoy beers like Oktoberfest, Serrano Pale Ale, Sea Monster Imperial Stout, Habanero Sculpin, and more.

Beer is Not the New Wine; Beer is Beer

The Daily News fired off another article about a craft beer trend in New York this morning. It has a lot of the same obnoxious cliches that I’ve seen in countless other feature stories about beer: a pun about hops, overuse of the word “suds” as a synonym for beer, and interchangeable use of “geek” and “snob” to describe craft beer drinkers. It also leads with a foolish statement that alienates beer and wine drinkers alike: “Beer is the new wine.”

The cans are coming! KelSo cans on the way to stores

Brooklyn’s KelSo Beer Company is poised to release their first packaged beer later this week, after the first cases rolled off a canning line on Monday. The cans of their Pilsner arrived at their distributor earlier this week, and will hit store shelves around the city in eye-popping purple packaging soon. It will make KelSo the fourth New York City brewery to can their beer - and the first to do it in the five boroughs, thanks to a unique service provided by a Connecticut-based company.

Happy Hour: Beer for a Good Cause

It’s Tuesday, October 15th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • Rattle-N-Hum (14 E. 33rd St., at 5th Ave., Midtown) hosts a benefit for Colorado Flood Relief starting at 4pm today. A portion of the proceeds from all beers from Oskar BluesLeft Hand, Breckenridge, and Great Divide will go to the Left Hand Brewing Foundation to support victims of last month’s floods. Drink for a good cause!

  • Elysian kicks three days of New York City events as a spinoff to their famous Pumpkin Patch beer festival… it’s The Pumpkin Patch NYC Tour. Tonight, they’ll have two bar crawls that feature their series of Pumpkin Beers at every location. Uptown, they’ll hit Jacob’s Pickles (509 Amsterdam Ave., at 85th St., Upper West Side)George Keeley (485 Amsterdam Ave., at 83rd St., Upper West Side)Valhalla (815 9th Ave., at 54th St., Hell’s Kitchen), The Pony Bar HK (637 10th Ave. at 45th St., Hell’s Kitchen), and The Pony Bar UES (1444 First Ave. at 75th St., Upper East Side).

  • Then across the East River, Elysian will host their NYC Tour in Park Slope, with their Pumpkin beer on tap at every stop: 4th Avenue Pub (76 4th Ave., at Bergen St., Boerum Hill), Pacific Standard (82 4th Ave., at St. Marks Pl., Boreum Hill), Mission Dolores (249 4th Ave., at Carroll St., Park Slope), Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope), and The Gate (321 5th Ave., at 3rd St., Park Slope).
  • Bierkraft (191 Fifth Ave., at President St., Park Slope) features the beers of Peak Organic tonight at 7pm for their free Tuesday Tasting… get there early for a seat as Mike Cadoux takes you through five of the Maine-based brewery’s beers!

  • Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E. 7th St., at 2nd Ave., East Village) hosts Johnny Brilliant and Jessica Garcia Agullo from Iberian Beer United, a they debut their latest collaboration beer between Brian Strumke’s Stillwater and Spanish outfit L’Anjub. The beer, Aloja, is brewed with Spanish nugget hops from Leon and a new saison yeast. They’ll have it on tap starting at 7:30pm.

  • Radegast Hall (113 N. 3rd St., at Berry St., Williamsburg) hosts an their Tuesday Tasting tonight at 7:30pm. They’ll be any four of their nine draft lines - your choice - plus free snacks along with live music from Jason Green and Labor of Love!

  • Bar Catalonia (206 W. 41st St., at 7th Ave., Midtown) hosts their first in a series called Boogie Down with The Bronx Brewery, featuring local musicians and their beer. The Markham Group, a jazz ensemble, will perform as you enjoy a complimentary tasting of Bronx Pale Ale from 6-7:30pm.

New York breweries win seven medals at Great American Beer Festival

New York state’s breweries shone brightly at this weekend’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, taking home seven medals in their best performance since 2009. All told, the state’s brewers won one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals in a competition that featured over 700 American craft breweries and over 4,800 beers.

Happy Hour: Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, October 10th. Here’s our list of recommended beer-related events in and around New York after work tonight:

  • It’s New England Beer Night at Barcade Jersey City(163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City) tonight starting at 5pm. Enjoy beers like the Allagash Hugh Malone, Maine Beer Co.
