aPORKalypse Now: pig and beer together in one place

2012 is apparently not just the year of the pending apocalypse, but also the pending A-Pork-alypse.

Get Real NY is back with another new festival, and this one is a celebration of pork and beer called aPORKalypse Now! On Saturday, February 25th, loads of meat and booze will be wheeled into The 404 Event Space (404 10th Ave., at 33rd St., Hell’s Kitchen) for the day-long event. 10 “swine-centric” chefs will be given ten organic local whole hogs to prepare 20 different pork dishes. Among the chefs: Matthew Hyman from Alewife Queens, Philippe Roussel of Café d’Alsace, and Antonio Mora from Prime Meats.

But let’s be honest, you want to know about the beer. There will be a bevy of local and American craft beer, including brews from Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, Captain Lawrence, and Stillwater Artisanal Ales. They’ll have 25 breweries in all represented, over 15 casks of beer, and some special, rare brews, like a bourbon barrel-aged version of the Bronx Pale Ale, a Rye-Aged Rauchbier from Kelso of Brooklyn, and Sixpoint Ich Bin Kein Berliner Weisse.

The event will run in two sessions: 1-4pm and 5-8pm, with VIP access an hour earlier for your gorging and drinking pleasure. Tickets are $38 for general admission, and $49 for VIPs, and are available now through Thrillist Rewards.
