Alaska’s Midnight Sun makes NYC debut this week

New York, meet your newest brewery to distribute on Manhattan’s shores. It’s an Alaskan outfit - the second one to reach the city - and it’s not the brewery you might expect. After all, people have asked us about Alaskan for years, and their distribution has now inched its way into the Midwest. Instead, we’re getting a much smaller brewery in size that is unmatched in quality.

Meet Anchorage’s Midnight Sun Brewing. Since its launch in 1995, Midnight Sun has matured into an artful, creative force on Alaska’s beer scene, brewing such beers as the Sockeye Red, a red IPA with three varietals of American hops, and TREAT, an Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter (no kidding). They also make a roasty Mammoth Extra Stout, a super hoppy CoHoHo Imperial IPA brewed with juniper berries, brown sugar, and honey, and Monk’s Mistress, a mind-numbing 11.5% Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

Those beers, along with a couple others, will be on tap for their New York launch this Sunday, February 5th, at 3pm at Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village). Soon after, you’ll see their brews on tap lines and bottle shops around town.

We in New York are blessed to have access to such great beer. Midnight Sun is one of many breweries who have recognized that New York’s beer scene matters enough to send their beer here from great distances. In fact, New York is just the sixth state to receive Midnight Sun’s beer. Only Alaska, Idaho, California, Washington, and Oregon are as lucky as we are. That’s some pretty good company.
